Hmm..... nge au where frisk, chara, and asriel/flowey are weird allegories for the children.
More importantly, the evas are corpses of monsters.
Sans, Papyrus, Alphys, Undyne, Gaster, MTT are all part of Nerv, or the monster equivalent.
Will the following make sense if you havent watched nge?? Probably not. But no regrettis.
Flowey is staring quite hard, you notice. You ask why.
"They remind me of someone." He answers you. "But enough of that. It doesn't matter! We need to get you up to level or you'll be replaced! You don't want someone else piloting Unit 01 do you?"
You shake your head, but you're not sure. You were made for this, but fighting isn't your strong suit. But with angels, there really is no MERCY. A new pilot is a nice prospect, but you don't want to be replaced. Piloting an EVA is the only thing you can do.
Flowey wraps a vine around your wrist and yanks you back into formation. You'll be joined by the new pilot soon enough. Dr. Alphys had told you their name. It sounded nice.
"Come on! If you fail and get kicked out of the program I won't have anyone to fight with! It'll be all your fault!"
"if it's too much, well. i wouldn't blame you for running, kid." You're lost, scared, and Sans only smiles at you gently. "running away isn't all that bad. i should know. it's my specialty."
But you're the only one who can do this, you say. It's the one thing everyone has been telling you. You're the first to survive this far, the only one with such a high synchronization rate.
"flowey may be annoying but he's capable. and if he goes down, well. that won't be your fault. that's on us, we should've found a better way." He turns his face away from you and he doesn't get to do that, you yell at him you rail-- what, no? you reach out to him, palm facing up. Pushover.
"heh. well, i guess it's too late to tell you that. somebody shoulda told you much sooner. and it's not like i can say i don't want you to pilot the eva. my brother's at the central dogma." He laughs, looks back at you. As always, your face is an open book.
"your mind is already made up. well, you can't tell the old lady i didn't try." he shrugs. "just know when you're out there, there's somebody out there who really cares for ya. okay?"
He smells like bones and sugar.
Dr. Alphys and Undyne like each other very much, so it's always a surprise when they go head to head.
"Double the LCL density!"
"Th-that will cause unnecessary r-r-risks and unwarranted strain on the v-vessel's body!"
"It's the safest way to extract the Entry Plug! Dr. Alphys, I am the authority on this mission!"
"W-with all due respect, Un-Undyne if we lose this vessel, too, the risks of being un p-p-prepared during the next Angel attack--"
"SYNCHRONIZING ENTRY PLUG. ALL LEVELS SHOW GREEN."
The LCL fills your lungs as you seat yourself in Unit 01's cockpit.
"neural interface show no abnormailities, as always."
"OF COURSE. POWER PLUG INSERTED!"
Lights flickers on and you can hear Undyne's voice over the comms.
"disengaging primary and secondary restraints."
"WHAT ARE YOU TWO DOING??!!"
"PREPARING LAUNCH SEQUENCE CAPTAIN UNDYNE!"
"PREPARING LAUNCH SEQUENCE?"
"launch sequence is go, thanks cap. good luck, kiddo."
You grin, fiercly into nothing as your EVA powers on and the view clears. EVA 00 is writhing on the surface, the black and grey horned mecha twitching under the angel's assault. Flowey refused extraction. But you won't let him die today.
You shake your head and say that no. You're just you.
"But we come from the same place." I put my hand over my heart. "We have the same soul."
You shake your head, placidly. Everything you do is placid. You only allow yourself a moment to shakily breathe before you enter the Entry Plug filled with determination. To SAVE the world. Asriel hesitated more often.
"Humans and monsters are so different." I say.
You tell me that they're not different at all.
"They are; Love, for example. It is strange that love for humans is different than LOVE for Monsters, is it not?"
You shrug. You don't understand quite yet. That's okay. All pieces will fall into place eventually.
"But, it feels like we are meant to be here, together." I reach out for your hand, and you grasp it, like the choice was more natural than anything in the world. I bring it to my chest, the thump thump of my heart under your palm. "Our souls, synchronous."
There's more than the world that you want to SAVE. But you can't SAVE everything. Or everyone. Everything has a purpose, and I have mine. But perhaps, yours is more important. Just this once.
You smell like LCL and buttercups.
The EVA roars, steam rising from its mouth. Its-- no, her's. You know the truth now. Her horns arc in the air as she tosses her head and her eyes shine as she looks towards the camera. The EVA is alive. Her purple armor cracked to show white down underneath.
You turn away from the screen.
Flowey stares at you in expectation, but what can you do. You're standing on the shoulders of seven dead kids already, knowing Toriel's fate can't change your mind.
I agree. There's fate to be dealt, and the angels have already called my name.
When the EVA's power was at zero, and you were sure nothing would be able to save you, you felt it. The beat of a heart--of a soul. It felt warm, like a hearth. Before you lost consciousness you smelled cinnamon and butterscotch.
"I was always so afraid." Asriel was never meant for this, but the experimental EVA units would only accept biometrics under a certain chronological timeframe.
"But I was going to be a hero! I was going to show the world that there was a path towards hope!"
Unfortunately, fate had other plans.
But if it hadn't happened this way, would we have ever met?
"So you're saying everything happens for a reason? Are you no longer mad, for me?"
I'm still mad. Are you mad? Yes. No.
"They've done this to us, all of us, and you're going to let it go?"
Of course not. I'm here on a mission. To breach Nerv's HQ and start the third impact.
Why do we get to choose who dies?
You chose which angels died.
"They chose to let me die."
No. No that was an accident.
Asriel still exists, as Flowey, you want to help him.
"What if I don't want to exist like that! As a vessel? Don't I get a choice?"
Don't we get a choice, on whether we live or die?
This whole time I have only ever done what others wanted me to. But I can choose this. You don't deserve to die. I've seen others, who deserve a chance.
"You're going to mess up again! You're going to mess this all up!"
No, we'll SAVE the world.
... funny. SAVING smells like. . .
Frisk wakes, with a jolt and stares at the ceiling of the Nerv medical bay. They look to the side and see Flowey sealed in a containment box, his tattered leaves glowing.
"it's hard for monster magic to heal somethin without a soul. but he's doing better. think you had somethin to do with that?"
On the other side of them is sans. Hands in his pockets, grin plastered to his skull like always. He searches Frisk's face then closes his sockets.
"as long as you found the answers you were lookin for. everything else is just gravy. i'm sure you wanna know what's happening but... someone shoulda done this a long, long time ago." he reaches out and brushes the hair out of Frisk's eyes, petting it back. "you did good, kid. i know i'm no doting guardian, but hopefully this still means something. you really saved us. we're all proud of you."
Frisk and Flowey sit next to each other as the sun sets over the ocean. Cicadas scream in the air. Frisk looks over at Flowey, the sun drenching his petals in firey hues. He always looks a little mad, but he looks sad as well.
Frisk asks why he pilots the EVA.
Frisk doesn't say me, too. Frisk doesn't say Chara said that, too.
Frisk sets their hand down between them and lets Flowey intertwine a vine around their pinky.
Maybe they started out with nothing. But Frisk is gaining things, one by one. A friend. A guardian's smile. A brother's hug. A doctor's concern. A captain's worry.
Frisk will make it worth everything.
