Are we able to straighten our hair in the dorm? I have thick, curly hair and it takes about an hour to straighten (I don't do it often but I'd like to know I can) also in duchesne west, are there mirrors at the desk area (like for doing makeup/hair)

If you’re asking if there are sufficient wall outlets for use, the answer is yes. I wouldn’t advise doing it in the communal bathrooms but you are welcome to do practically whatever you want that is within BC safety guidelines in your own room. BC does not provide mirrors at the desks.

Is there a lot of partying during welcome week? I'm not huge into drinking but I don't want to miss out on meeting people and being involved

In my experience there wasn’t, but I know people will say differently - that just shows that you can still be involved without having to party, because clearly that’s what I did haha. Don’t worry about missing out on opportunities! Everything during welcome week is designed so you have chances to meet people and socialize in non-party scenarios, and you can look forward to a lot of residential hall activities organized by your RA so you can know the people on your floor and in your building better. If you have any more specific questions please don’t hesitate to ask - I’ll try to drudge up more answers depending on what I remember, haha.

Any tips to be more competitive in applying for on campus jobs?

The only thing I can say is apply during your freshman year, because you are more likely to get hired since they want to take students who can potentially commit long-term. That’s about as competitive as jobs on BC get, I believe. As long as you take initiative and seek out opportunities on your own by asking upperclassmen or consulting the job listings on the BC website, you should be fine. I’m not sure if this is the same anon who had the other job related questions? If it is, please feel free to message me privately here - I can share my personal experience working with you (I have held down 2- 3 campus jobs since the beginning of my freshman year).

Do campus jobs require you to send in a resume? Does it increase your chance of employment? I don't really have one because it would be my high school resume from college applications...

For some they do, but that’s more so they can get a general sense of what you’ve done and what areas of work you’re most comfortable with, if that makes sense. It all depends on the job itself. I wouldn’t worry about the resume being only from high school! Just apply/email and ask what they want you to send in, and it’ll be more clear that way.

What kinds of on campus jobs do you recommend or have heard good things about? Are there any that should be avoided?

I heard library jobs are pretty good/easy

I had friends who worked in the Rat/coffee places and it was fine. Not the best, but nothing horrible

Since I was in theatre I worked in the costume shop, which was great (if you do theatre, there are a lot of jobs you can get there). Some non-theatre people worked the box office but those were tough to get because people tend to hold on to that job as long as possible.

Any one else have job advice?

katiedora said: I worked at Late Night in Lower. Serving/cleaning was fine, but the people were great. Just avoid the weekend shifts if possible because they are SO LONG and I have many drunk kid horror stories.
