“I already made sure it was dead,” she clarified.

The saferoom stunk. That much could be said simply by the expression the conman wore the entire time he occupied it. He was sure there were corpses lying around somewhere, but despite searching the place multiple times, Nick had come up with nothing.

The idea to leave the smelly sanctuary was entertained multiple times but was shot down ultimately by the fact that the sun had already begun to set and there was no way in hell that Nick was going to risk a long stretch without a safehouse in the dark while on his own.

Resigned to the stench, the conman slid his back down one of the corners of the room, arms folded, head down, knowing that the sooner he got to sleep, the sooner he could get out of such an uncomfortable place.

Ash stiffened as Nicholas threw his arms around her, pulling her into a hug. they’d been out on a run, and at one point, everything had looked bleak. But They had found a way out, had survived. 

slowly, she wrapped her arms around him, holding Nicholas tight against her. “ It’s okay, Nicholas.” She whispered, gently rubbing circles into his back. “ We’re okay. we’re home. We’re still alive.”
