“Heeeeeeeey, it’s my birthday, right? So that means I get to do whatever I want, right?”

Not right. Her birthday was, and forever will be, a festival of sorts --- the birth of a miracle child blessed by the sun! No matter how big her smile was or how her eyes shined when she said the “b-word” she was still a princess and princesses had duties that surpassed their own wishes. 

“I just want to go out for a liiiiittle while. just for meeeee? Pretty please?”

Never have I ever been more relieved by a rejection. But I’m also hurt? Am I not chokeable enough for you? Is my neck ugly?

Was there ever a more truthful cliche to use for them than ‘as different as day and night’?  A lovable sunshine of a girl, complete with yellow hair and a smile that could easily stop wars, Rapunzel was the very personification of her kingdom’s crest. She was only ever contained when under his steely watch, a mercenary turned reluctant babysitter. His brooding and ‘speak none, get none’ sort of ways balanced her and kept her out of trouble. Sometimes.

“Signore Uno-Due-Tre-Quattro. Even the moon smiles. Why else would we have crescents? Look Look! See? Look at mine. Can’t you turn that frown upside down even just a moment? I’d hate to sketch you looking so grim again.”

“Well you can still do one of those,” she says with a nod. Shitty as Chili’s is…they do have alcohol. Then he’ll be the guy that got drunk at Chili’s before eight at night and his dignity was a sacrifice she was willing to make for the Cause. What cause? She’d find one. 

Rosie leans over the booth and flips to the back section for him, tapping. “There you go, buddy. I ain’t eating alone, though.”
