Cyrus Haines enlisted in Co. F of the 48th Pennsylvania Infantry at the age of 16. His enlistment records indicate he was 5′3″ tall, listed his occupation as “laborer” and his age as “19.” He survived the battles of 2nd Bull Run, Antietam, Fredericksburg, the Wilderness, and Spotsylvania unharmed, but was wounded in the arm at Cold Harbor. He returned to the Army after a three-months’ convalescence, finishing the war as a regular in the 7th U.S. Infantry. He died in Pottsville, PA in 1937.
