Izumi | Trial 1 End | Grinder
Izumi gasped at the laser's blast, but it was a gasp that felt as though it expelled every bit of air from their lungs. They stared at the spot where dust coated a tabletop, mouth gaping soundlessly and uselessly. Their little legs shook until they fell on their knees. The only thing keeping them up was their forearms crossed over the top of the table, and soon when some skin extended from the bottom of their leather sleeves and stuck to the metal tabletop like a snail's foot, it was clear that only that kept them from sinking further. They... They said they didn't know how she could trust him to not follow through. They were right...to think that... then why did that feel like such a punch in the gut? Was it the suddenness? Oh god... their friend was gone. She'd never come back, and they'd never speak to her again. The only person they really knew in this place...dead. Maybe some part of them hoped she'd be right, and Brandi would berate them about being so mean about the honey after the trial. They would've been riled up and argued back, like always, but that's how it always was with them. Through all their years in Hope's Peak, that was a constant. They were... At some point Izumi's eyes had moistened. What the hell...? They shut their eyes tight and shoved their face into their forearms so no one could see, but the shuddering sobs that followed were harder to hide. That naive little shit... just offering herself up. She practically made Izumi throw her to the wolves, and then she confessed! No... No, that wasn't right. Izumi made a choice. They were sure Brandi was a traitor. They were in a unique position to see all the pieces come together, knowing her for as long as they did. It probably wouldn't be so easy next time. But...goddammit! Why would there BE a next time?! If the Catalyst could just kill them all why hadn't he done it already and gone on with destroying the world?! Why were they forced to go through this BULLSHIT?! And of course they didn't fucking understand Brandi's reasons. She said that she was being ethical. What the fuck was ethical about the end of the world? Why did she trust him?! Why does anyone trust ANYONE?! That fucking naive piece of shit. (As Izumi was still sobbing into their own arms, they didn't notice Atria sailing through the air.)
