Do you have any routines that help you get in the 'zone' to write?

okay, to be honest: sprinting helps me a lot. Sprints on the BDB discord have changed my life. It’s so easy to say, I’ll just write for these 20 min, and even if I only get 17 words, I tried? Then it’s like four sprints later and you’re knee deep in this restaurant AU you didn’t mean to be this long all you wanted to do was write about garlic and gays but suddenly it’s 25K and you aren’t stopping.

There’s something about that “fuck it” headspace that really works for me.

Additional things that help me write:

Coffee. Duh.

I have to be comfortable. I can work-write at a desk, but the fun writing happens in my ~chaise lounge~ or on the couch.

Wine.

I actually can’t listen to music when I’m writing; I have a visceral reaction to music I really love and it’s too many different kinds of words at once. Same with TV, unless it’s something like Criminal Minds that I have memorized.

Brandy.

Daydreaming. No, really. Sometimes I’ll just be drifting along and a scene will pop into my head that I need to write.

and again, sprinting, or at least chatting w friends. In BDBD we share snippets after each sprint so you get really pumped up about other people’s stuff, and vice versa, and that’s a really awesome way to get in the zone!
