Uncle Yanco
Agnès Varda (1967)
«When you wake up every day, you get a chance to think of what you want to do with your day and what you want to put into the world that day, and who you want to be. Be a Lover. Choose Love. Give Love. Love everyone, always. Spread as much Love as you can. Treat People With Kindness.»
-Harry Styles
“By the Incarnation, Christ has made Himself brother to all human beings. Henceforth, loving human beings is loving Christ. Please love God with your whole heart and keep doing it for the rest of your life. Give your whole self to God and to His images, your brothers and sisters. Risk. Be crazy. Hold nothing back. Don’t be reasonable. Don’t be an investor. Be a lover.”
~Peter Kreeft

Gotta see it to believe it
Sunflower, my eyes
She would always go out of her way to make your day. Initially, the boy might've hoped it was just for him, but as he came to learn how generously she loved everyone in her life, he couldn't find it in him to be let down. Whether it was a smile, a compliment, a door held open, or a no-pressure, no-expiry offer to talk whenever you felt lonely, she was just what you needed. She was just who he needed.
Doors yellow, broken, blue
Let me inside
He heard it from someone else. How she'd held her arms open entirely to people only to have them forget about her, or leave, or take advantage. While she carried on like it didn't affect her, the girl now had the habit of never talking much about herself, always genuinely disbelieving compliments, and never accepting help - politely, of course. The boy made it his mission to be the person she could trust with her saddest, angriest, most selfish truths. He wanted to love all of her, always, the way she loved all of him and everyone around her.
I wanna get to know you
That’s what I always do
Want you more than a melody
She plays songs I’ve never heard
I don’t wanna make you feel bad
Pretends not to know the words
I’m still tongue-tied
One of her favourite songs comes on. He's never heard it before, but he knows it moves her the way her lips wrap soundlessly around every word and the way her steps never miss a beat. He asks her about it, but it startles her, shaking her out of her melody-induced bliss and the boy back-pedals, tongue flapping uselessly between his cheeks.
Staring at the ceiling
Tired eyes are the death of me
He heard it from someone else. How she did go out of her way to make someone's day. Someone else. The boy's eyes were sore from crying and lack of sleep. He must've painted a hundred visions across his bedroom ceiling of how he might coax his way into that special place in her heart, of how they could make a home together - kids or pets or just the two of them, he didn't care about the details as much as he cared about her.
I carry the feeling through Paris all through Rome
Keep it sweet in your memory
I keep thinking back to the time under the canyon moon
The boy would be lying if he said he didn't go into full mourning for a few days. He refused to call it moping. Moping was reserved for finding out you ran out of ice cream but the stores are all closed until the morning. Mourning was for hearts utterly shattered, shredded, and stomped on. But he couldn't resent her. He simply couldn't and wouldn't even try. She deserved better than that. She had made him better than that. So he tucked his love into the softest, most inner pocket of his mind and smiled when he saw her, his generous, smiling, very best friend.
I just added this to my etsy shop, go check it out if you’d like one for yourself :)
