Presents or presence
As I was preparing to answer some questions about Christmas, the thought came to me that Christmas is the celebration of God’s presence among us, but we’ve turned Christmas into a focus on presents. God wants to give us Himself (His presence), but many times we’re more interested in the presents we think He should give us.
Even in the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve exchanged a piece of fruit (a present, the devil told them) for God’s presence.
Quick: Can you think of a present someone gave you last Christmas? This probably doesn’t come easily to mind. Can you think of a time this last year when someone “being there” for you (their presence) was meaningful? This one you could probably think of more quickly.
Presence trump presents.
As you celebrate Christmas this year, focus on God’s presence in your life, and not the presents you’re asking Him for. And then remember those around you want your presence way more than they want your presents, so figure out how to give it to them.
“Be Authentic
About needing help
About being human
About sometimes getting angry
About sometimes needing to cry.
Be authentic
That we haven't always got it all together
That we don't always know the answers
That we've failed spectacularly in some things
And risen mightily to the occasion
In others.
And that's...OK.
Be Authentic - For Here We Are
Having this strange, this sad, sacred and beautiful...Human Experience
Though sometimes we're told we need to be Gods,
Goddesses-
But... we're not.
Instead we age. Get ill. Get round, thin. Poor, Proud, Frail... Imperfect
Sometimes we Fail.
...And that's how it's meant to be.
So, dear one
Breathe.
Be Authentic.
It's not about letting ourselves go
But rather, letting ourSelves 'Be.'
Finding Rest in the arms of Self
Restoring ourselves back
To the simple Beauty of this Life.
Be Authentic.
For sometimes we get Lost in the too much refining,
The too much trying. The too much saccharine
Perfection
But our taste-buds for Life can come back
They truly can
And not just taste Life again,
But find Joy.
Be Authentic.
Real
For it's all a process of Sacred Growing.
That we might take this beautiful and rare Life
This Journey...
Together
Until we finally come to meet each other again
Ourselves
The World even -
At the greatest, and yet most simple place
Of all:
That is: The ''Where We Are At. ...Right Now.'”

My Two Cents: Be All In
My Two Cents: Be All In
Recently, after attending an Easter celebration at my alma mater, Dallas Baptist University, Sweet T and I drove through the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Terri’s mom, Joyce, accompanied us that evening. We were in awe of all the rows of headstones marking lives of service and sacrifice.
Memorial Dayis a federal holiday set aside to honor and remember the men and women who sacrificed their…

Because we've forgotten where we're going we can't be steadfast where we are. We'd rather just change than devote ourselves to "this place, this work, this spouse, this land." But this is so contrary to the church's character we find in scripture.
