The salty ocean breeze tried valiantly to knock his hat off, but Cal placed a firm hand on top of it to stop the loss. He could already feel his exposed skin growing warm from the sunlight. General Kenobi had slathered an annoying amount of sunblock on him, but it seemed to be failing. Ugh. He was going to turn a livid shade of crimson at this rate.
"Come on," Boba practically yelled in his ear while running by. Cal's eyes widened as the other twisted just enough to grasp his wrist. That couldn't be good! He stumbled at the sudden pull and then found himself having to run to keep up. The hat blew off his head while BD let out a faint scream at being smacked slightly by the escaping article of clothing.
"Sorry, buddy!" The sand was hot underneath his bare feet. Warm, he was bordering on hot. Cal's face erupted into a large smile as they raced towards the water. This beat Kamino by star systems! He could almost forget all the time traveling nonsense for a bit.
"Boys," Jango barked out. "Don't try to drown each other."
He glanced over his shoulder, a risky move while running, and was mildly shocked to see General Kenobi actually abusing the Force to set up the umbrellas and blankets on the beach. Anakin seemed to have planted himself, in annoyance, on a chair and refused to move. Dice was screaming while running away from Striker. This almost seemed normal, like they were all one giant family.
Tomorrow they'd go back to trying to dismantle the growing war.
There were vod'e still finding their names playing on various parts of the beach, there were ones that weren't willing to share their names yet soaking up the sun, and there were just vod'e having fun. Jango had blanched at the suggestion, but the General had given him a look. Beach trip won, naturally. Jango caved.
Padmé walked over to Jango and Obi-Wan, her arms full of some sort of basket. Her hair was woven into an intricate braid with flowers practically dripping from the strands. Her swin cover was soft colors and flowy, Cal wondered if the material was soft. He could see how many of the vod'e had idolized her as a war saint. It was almost as if she could sense his attention on her because she glanced towards him and smiled.
Oh, she was pretty.
"Cal," Boba ordered. "Pay attention!" He turned to look at his partner and then the water was rushing up against their feet. Cold! He bit back a yelp and plastered himself to Boba's side. The retaliation was instant. They erupted into a water fight while BD cheered on both sides. Soon enough other people were joining into the childishness. Laughter mixed with yells over the sound of crashing water. Cal was soaked, most likely burning under the sun, but for the first time in years he didn't feel like he needed to look over his shoulder.
He yelped when Anakin picked him up. Curses, he had thought he was safe too soon! His legs kicked wildly as the older padawan laughed. Oh, this was war.
"Attack," he yelled. Anakin nearly dropped him as a large deluge of water hit them thanks to various vod'e.
They only stopped their water war when the General let out an ear splitting whistle.
"Alright, my young warriors. Time to eat." He hadn't realized he was hungry until the mention of food filled the air. Cal struggled, but found himself securely over Anakin's shoulder. The older boy walked back towards the blankets, muttering about sand as he went. Sand, Cal agreed, did get everywhere.
They ate sandwiches and fruit, with pudding cups for dessert. The meal was full of people talking loudly, and yet, he found himself leaning against Boba while he started to doze off. He was pleasantly warm and content. The Force was also content.
Today, he decided, was a good day.
Tomorrow was something they'd deal with when it finally arrived.
"Cal," Obi-Wan called out. "Come sit with me for a bit."
"Yes, Master," he said through a yawn. Others were already racing off to go play in the water again, but not him. No. Cal sat down next to the General and drifted off while the other began to read.
"Boba," Padmé called out, "help me with this sandcastle!"

You, Reader, have made a deal with what you believed to be a fantasized version of your favorite YouTuber’s alter ego, Darkiplier after he’d visited you in a dream. You believed Darkiplier to only exist in your dreams and on Markiplier’s YouTube channel, but by some impossible way he’s real and he intends on collecting on your debt to him.
Drying your hair you sit on your bed. Today you’ll be going to the beach. Sean had offered to join you. He likes the beach, Mark on the other hand declined. His odd dislike of the ocean makes him more endearing to you. You could almost see him just standing on the sand and flipping the ocean off, shouting a loud, ”fuck you ocean!”
You’d declined Sean’s offer. Telling him to enjoy his time at the convention and you’d see him later in the evening for the far well dinner. He reluctantly agreed. You look at your phone and see a few funny photos from both Mark and Sean. Both turned around and making faces at the camera with the other in the background. You laugh at the photos before setting your phone back down.
This week has been packed with just an over load of different emotions and events it’s hard to even believe it’s real. Your date with Dark hadn’t been what you’d expected. He was tamed and polite and… honest. Well, it’s not like he isn’t those things normally, but he was less guarded and defensive about your questions. It’d been nice, enlightening in more than one way.
You’d learned a lot and it’s nice not being in the complete dark about everything. Dark is fulfilling your deal and in turn you are… kind of doing the same? At least, he expects you to, but can you really make a creature like Dark happy? Eventually you’ll grow old, you’ll die and he’ll be alone. You tried to explain your true intention with the deal was for him to be free from obligations and be able to find love with someone who will always be at his side, someone that won’t die after a few decades.
Sighing you stand, walking to your partially packed suit cases and drop your towel, dressing in a pretty floral pattern two piece. You put on sunscreen before putting the over coat/towel thing your mother insisted you take with you. It coves you, but it feels bulky.
Deciding again the towel dress…thing, you take it off and grab a swimsuit cover up with skull and cross bone pattern. Wrapping it around your chest, you tie it behind your neck and look yourself over in the mirror. Not bad.
You take your portable phone charger, cord, and extra supplies; you plan on sun bathing for a while before walking around the boardwalk. Taking the elevator you meet your waiting car and quietly enjoy the ride to the beach.
It’s bigger than you originally thought and with so much to look at and buy. Honestly, it’s a little overwhelming as you make your way to the beach. Bright and colorful you feel at home with all the various pieces of art on display in some of the privately owned galleries. Spotting a hand blown glass butterfly you know your mother would like it. The woman loves butterflies.
Walking along the beach you find a small unclaimed area and set up your little spot. A small sun umbrella to protect your head for the most part, towel spread out on the sand. Adding a little more sunscreen to your face you lie down and close your eyes.
It doesn't take long for the sun to seep into your skin, warming even your bones. You can't help but drift off a little...well, at least for what feels like a few minutes before a voice cuts into your solitude.
“Well, well, well, what have we here? An angel come down from heaven to sun bathe?” your swear it's Wilford's voice. But Mark is at the convention and he hates the ocean. You know you'll probably regret this, but you slowly open an eye and look up.
“Wilford?” you say shocked. “W-what are you doing there?” you ask sitting up, looking around for Sean, or Ethan, or Tyler, anyone else. You can't help but smile a little at the outfit Wilford is in. Tan colored cargo shorts, a tucked in sunshine yellow button up and his trade mark pink suspenders, bow tie, and mustache, but it's the hat he has on that makes it absolutely funny to you. He's wearing a safari hat. It's actually quite fitting for the journalist, but it still begs the question why he's at the beach.
“Well hello my dear.” Wilford says sitting down next to you in the sand. You simply stare at him.
“Wilford, what are you doing here? Mark is supposed to be at the convention.” you say softly but slightly panicking.
“And he is, my dear. I came on my own today.” Wilford says confusing you further.
“What do you mean?” you ask readjusting your towel before giving Wilford you full attention. His on the other hand is sweeping you up and down. “Wil!” you snap earning his attention back to your face.
“I'm sorry my dear, but you look so... delightful.” He tells you in the tone and way only unique to him. You sigh and roll your eyes at him.
“Please focus, Wilford.” you say a little annoyed with the pink mustached man. You notice his hair is longer that Mark’s currently and it’s pink again. When you saw Mark yesterday his hair was back to it’s natural dark brown. “Where is Mark?” you ask in a serious tone.
Wilford waves his hand at you, as if dismissing your question. “He's fine, my dear. He's happily talking with this “fans” at the convention.” Wilford says using air quotes. You know it irks him that he doesn't get as much fan mail as Mark does.
“Then what are you doing here?” you ask smirking at him.
“I came to spend time with you.” he tells you as if it should be so very obvious. You look him over.
“You couldn't have worn something...that would blend in a little better?” you ask still smirking.
“What's wrong with what I'm wearing now? I think I look quite dashing.” Wilford says and you have to agree with him. He does look rather dashing. Yellow and pink are definitely his colors. You chuckle a little.
“Okay, I will give you that.” you say noticing a few people stopping to stare at you. You wonder if they can actually see Wilford, or if you look crazy. You've been wondering that a lot lately...
“A-Are you cosplaying as Wilford?” A young woman about thirteen asks looking directly at Wilford.
Wilford seems to beam at the young woman and jumps to his feet. “My dear, I'll have you know, you are speaking to the one and only Wilford Warfstache. It is a pleasure to meet you.” Wilford says holding his hand out. The young woman blushes and giggles as she shakes Wilford's hand.
“Is this your girlfriend?” she asks looking to you with question in her eyes. You blink, a little confused.
Before you can deny the claim Wilford butts in with, “my dear, this is my lovely companion, but enough about us, tell me what can I do for you?” You roll you eyes and stand up, brushing off the sand from your legs.
“C-can I get a photo and an autograph?” she asks a little intimidated by Wilford's full height. You smile, the poor girl. Wilford himself can be such a handful.
“Why of course young lady. I, Wilford Warfstache, would be delighted to take a photograph with you.” Wilford says happily. You smile as you watch the girl's mother take a photo of the two. Wilford giving a big goofy smile. You laugh softly as the girl received her autograph and left with her mother.
“You're such a ham, Wilford.” you tell him sitting down with the man in peace once again. You spend the next two hours talking with Wilford, at one point you'd taken to talking along the board walk, looking through different shops.
“Oh, I think you would look simply ravishing in this little number.” Wilford says holding up a barely there dress you'd never wear willingly.
“No, Wilford, put it down before I make you wear it.” you tell him jokingly. Wilford chuckles but puts the dress down and continues through the rack he's looking through. You find a few things for your brothers and for your dad, you've already found something for you mom, so you don't have to worry about that. You prefer to buy handcrafted things rather than the touristy stuff like t-shirts or hands with the city or attraction's names on it.
“Wilford, are you ready?” you ask heading to the register to buy your goods. Wilford bounds over to you, it's rather funny to watch him move through the isle with the three items in his arms.
“What do you think?” he asks holding up a pink beret in front of the had he's currently wearing. You tilt your head, looking him over before nodding. He seems to like the hat a lot, so who are you to deny him that little pleasure.
You look at the other two items and raise a brow. “Am I paying?” you ask chuckling a little.
“If you would dear. I promise to pay you back.” he says, his promises hold very little water. You roll you eyes but nod your head and set you items down.
“Wow, you really like Markiplier.” the man behind the counter says looking Wilford over.
“No, he's a fan of Wilford.” you correct before letting Wilford talk.
“Right...” the man responded quickly ringing up your items. You hand over a few notes to the man before taking your items and leaving the small shop. You walk a little more with Wilford, offering to buy ice cream for the pair of you.
“Oh, that would be delightful.”
You share an ice cream before you tell him you have to head back to the hotel and get ready for your farewell dinner. He reluctantly agrees to let your time together end, disappearing before you can say a proper goodbye. You frown. Why do they like to do that too you?
Sam’s usual post-mission debrief doesn’t tend to include bald-faced lying about the circumstances of a mission failure, but when the truth is you fell through the ice and only survived via the ancient selkie art of rescue spooning in a poacher’s shack, you just gotta lie. After all, you can’t tell people your brand new boyfriend turns into a magical seal.
(Or: Bucky gets his arm replaced after his arctic antics, and he and Sam begin to explore their relationship. Will Sam ever get to see his boyfriend in fat, squishy seal mode? Hint: Yes. Yes he will.)
Latest chapter is: Beachcombing for Bananas, in which we finally see fat seal Bucky!
Whoo! had a great day at the beach, the water was a LITTLE cold (65 degrees? i don't think so...not after the first three inches) but the lake was clear and not overturned!
Got some sun, swam a LOT, although they've reduced the swim area to maybe 20 feet out and you can't go beyond the buoys or on the rock break walls to either side, which SUCKS, but it was fun! Although there were thunderstorms comming in so we had to leave the beach a couple times before they would let us back in the water and on the beach, but hey, first time it was lunchtime and second time we were ready to go.
Also had Splotch on the brain ALL day, he liked his mun being in the water.
