Why is community so important? ⁣ ⁣ In a world deeply disconnected by social media, comparison, civil/political unrest, and let's not forget the global pandemic, it's so easy to feel isolated and alone. It's so easy to forget that there are good people and good things all around us. And it's so easy to feel like your mark on the world is insignificant or even inexistent. ⁣ ⁣ I started my business, @bealightcollective, in 2016 with the desire to connect people. At the time, I was struggling with my identity (and a whole mess of other emotions) and I wanted to carve a space online where people could be inspired. ⁣ ⁣ What began as motivational quotes and heartfelt words quickly grew into collaboration, community, and celebration of growth from people worldwide. ⁣ ⁣ We are not just feel-good quotes and messages. We are also services that help people find their voice, refine their craft, and connect with like-minded creatives. We are also networking groups, events, and connections built through vulnerability.⁣ ⁣ In building #bealight, I quickly saw how important community could be, especially as a business owner and especially working for myself (and remotely). Finding a team, finding people I could "co-work" with, and finding moments where I could be physically or digitally connected to others has been so important. And even when the pandemic took so much of that away, I've discovered that community can be built virtually, too. (And just as powerfully!)⁣ ⁣ So... why do I share this?⁣ ⁣ To tell you that I'm relaunching some of the best parts of Be A Light Collective this season: our member space, publishing opportunities, our Facebook group dedicated to writing resources, our YouTube channel of tips and opportunities, etc.⁣ ⁣ But I also share this to remind you that even if you're feeling the most alone and isolated right now, you aren't. ⁣ ⁣ People love you. People can and will support you. And when you invest in building and joining community spaces, you'll find that connection is all around you. Write from the heart. 💗 Have you ever received that advice? Have you ever wondered what it really means?⠀ ⠀ When I first started writing, it was in journals. I would decorate the pages with different-colored gel pens and pictures along the margins. I would tell crazy stories or over-dramatized versions of my real life. I would pen poetry or musings. I filled journal after journal, over 50 200-page books by the time I was fifteen.⠀ ⠀ When I started my blog, Word&Sole the vision was still there. I made a promise to myself that I would write openly, freely. Something I told myself was "No one can read this. I'm going to write to me and no one else." And that's actually the foundation of advice I give to all my #writingcoaching clients. Sometimes you have to pretend you're the only voice in the room.⠀ ⠀ Writing with authenticity, especially in our media-driven world, can be so challenging. It's hard to cut through the noise, hard to determine your own voice, and hard to be open when society seems to push back, misinterpreting vulnerability as weakness.⠀ ⠀ If there's one thing I've learned, though, it's that when we are actively open, when we are vulnerable, transparent, and willing to put our true selves into the world, the world opens. ⠀ ⠀ One of my most viral quotes is this: "Become the person who is open and soft, not harsh and hidden. And watch how the world opens to you in return." And this rings so true, especially with writing.⠀ ⠀ If you want to be heard, if you want to be respected, if you want to share your heart in a way that's meaningful and carries weight, you have to be willing to put yourself out there.⠀ ⠀ Pretend you're the only one reading. Push away the fear and doubt. Listen to the core of yourself and what's pulsing with purpose. Cut through the noise to identify what resonates. And share. Keep sharing. 𝓑𝓾𝓲𝓵𝓭𝓲𝓷𝓰 𝓬𝓸𝓷𝓷𝓮𝓬𝓽𝓲𝓸𝓷𝓼 𝓽𝓱𝓪𝓽 𝓶𝓪𝓽𝓽𝓮𝓻: When I first started my business, @bealightcollective, I wanted to make my services different from the norm. As a teacher and writer, I've seen both of the industries and how disconnected they can be. Teachers have classes with too many students; editors have too much content to give personalized feedback.⠀ ⠀ And I hate that.⠀ ⠀ My vision was creating educational services: coaching, tutoring, editing, writing, etc. that were individualized and in-depth. No more getting a manuscript back with red pen edits and no feedback. No more disconnected meetings where you don't REALLY get to learn who your mentor is.⠀ ⠀ The 'Be A Light' approach is all about fostering genuine connections, building authentic relationships, and cultivating a community that centers on positivity, empowerment, and growth.⠀ ⠀ Over the last few weeks, I've been really thinking about my brand identity and what it means to 'be a light,' especially in the current landscape. While I know that the phrases 'love and light' and 'light the world' can fall cliche at times, I fully embrace them.
