Even a rampaging gorilla is no match for Chubby (Norman Chaney) and Farina (Allen Hoskins) in the Our Gang short Bear Shooters (1930).

This was the 98th Our Gang short. It is a remake of the silent short It's A Bear (1924), which featured Farina (Hoskins) as well.

Interesting to learn the identity of some of the earlier music used in the later silents & early sound films...  Now-- How about this tune that was used in “Cat and Dog Inc”, "Bear Shooters" & "When The Wind Blows"--? I tend to think "Awww Gee Whiz--" when I hear this one! It seems to fit into the Our Gang/Little Rascal world so well, one would think it was specifically composed for silent film use, but this tune was in fact, re-purposed from 1914... "Marionette"  was originally a novelty piano specialty composed by Felix Arndt, who would go on to compose “Nola” one  year later. (A huge hit!)

Here's one that wasn't used too often; but I do like it. "Jack In The Box" is a tune that is heard in 1930's "Bear Shooters".  It's played as the gang takes off for a camping trip with Dinah The mule in their rickety caravan. A live goose sits in as a makeshift auto horn. (Meh..it's a living..) 

Was it used elsewhere--? It was--! Also heard during the taffy pulling scenes in “A Tough Winter” & in the Charley Chase films; “Fifty Million Husbands” & “Whispering Whoopee” .  Now, I knew this one, as it was a commercial release by Victor records. Zez Confrey composed it, & it's really Nat Shilkret & The Victor Orchestra (probably under the direction of Leonard Joy) recording as "The Zez Confrey Orchestra"...
