What is the beard pulling induction??

Oooo! So I’m going to assume for purposes of this answer that you’re also not familiar with hair pulling as an induction generally.

So, it turns out that hair-pulling, when done right, can be a hell of a pattern interruption and/or fixation for a hypnotic induction. There are a ton of different methods, all quite fun!

At MEEHU 2, @theleeallure used me as a test case for a new version of the hairpulling induction that involved pulling on my beard. She and @zanydanger deftly put it to use and it was grand! The rest is history…

Which brilliancy of hypnotic play did you invent and have your friends/loved ones appropriate from you?

This is a super specific question for which I don’t have a great answer! I was definitely part of the inspiration for the beard-pulling induction, which definitely went on to become very much A Thing We Do.

Oh! One time at a hypnocon, I absolutely heard someone doing my Four Easy Steps file as their own induction, which was oddly flattering.

Beard Pulling

So everyone knows how babies love to grab and pull on beards. But as my daughter has grown I have found that her love for the beard (and grabbing it) has also grown.

As parents we are often distracted from our children by work, TV, smart phones, or any number of things. But my daughter has figured out that she can always get my attention by grabbing my beard and pulling my head around to look at her. Some parents might get angry at their child for doing this but I appreciate it because it reminds me to be present with her and that my attention is far better spent in connection with her than on anything I might be distracted by.

Even if it is just to listen to her for a second and to tell her that I am working on something I need to focus on, I always feel better after I acknowledge her.  When she grabs my beard and pulls my head around, I am happy. I am happy because it reminds me that, no matter what, she is the most important thing in the world to me.
