Basic Beard Tutorial
Aka how I paint beards over faces when I think they're too bare and I don't want to stare at them anymore. Alternatively, you can start with the beard already sketched out and paint it directly without rendering a face underneath by skipping to step 3.
Optional: Use a textured or thin brush to suggest more detail without actually painting in all that detail. Play around with hair texture and color and lighting.
Masculine Makeup Tutorial!
I finally got around to doing an updated masculine makeup tutorial! If you’d like to know a little more about my process for contouring my face and creating a beard when doing masculine characters, this is a super in-depth walk through of what I do.
I hope most of you find some helpful advice in here! Please feel free to share with anyone else you think may find it useful.
For the anon who asked... I HOPE THIS HELPS!!!
I added Leon because he was a good example for stubble.
After countless of questions about how I do my beard/stubble for Kili, I've finally made a tutorial for you!
Here’s my beard tutorial. This is what I did for my Tulkas cosplay. I needed fibres for beard which would be close to color of my wig. Well of course I didn’t find anything even close to to it from store.
1. Then I just figured why not use fibres which I’m gonna cut from my wig while styling it? Problem was that all those had too “big” curls as you can see.
2. I got an idea to iron my fibres (I tried boiling water but it didn’t do anything). I took some baking paper to protect my iron. I made little pocket for my fibres but you can also put fibres between to papers (though fold made it easier to hold fibres straight). But of course don’t hold fibres when you bring iron close! Hold them just until you bring iron close, don’t burn your fingers! Turn steam off from your iron.
3. Firstly I ironed fibres 5 seconds, then checked how they looked like and then ironed about 5 more to make them look more like beard fibres (bread hair isn’t straight). Once you have ironed enough fibres just use glue/gum (like Mehron Spirit Gum or Grimas Mastix Extra [I use this one] etc.) or latex to glue them to your skin~
Here and here you can see how my beard looks like~~
NOTE:
- My wig was heath resistant. I think I had almost maximum heath on my iron but I bet fibres straighten with lower heath too. If your wig isn’t heath resistant/you don’t know it is then test how your fibres endure heath and how long is your ironing time.
- Do not burn your fingers. And remember to turn steam off.
- Make sure there isn’t any lose fibres laying around so they won’t melt on your iron.
(( OOC: Well... I’m not very good at this sort of thing, so please be kind. ;) I’ve gotten a few questions like this, so figured I’d give it a shot. XD Don’t mind my morning voice/face/hair... I literally just crawled out of bed. ))
