it was longer than she remembered ... the trek home. perhaps that was due to them staying off the kings road. by now there were surely lannister soldiers all over the countryside looking for the stark girl. luckily, and as to be expected, sansa stark had many friends in the north. friends she would have to thank later. now there was only one goal for her: home. they’d decided finding robb would be too risky, he could move at any moment. winterfell was safest. and that’s where they would go.
they’d heard it before she did. the sound of a rider approaching from around the bend. they hadn’t drawn swords yet, but they were ready. always waiting, always watching. sansa could feel her heart beginning to race, the pounding was all she could hear. what if the lannisters had found them ? what if they had more men than she did ? and what would they do to her when the drug her back to kings landing ? or would they just slit her throat and be done with it ... a single rider came around the bend ....
relief, sweet relief rushes over her. a face she hadn’t seen in far too long, a face she could never forget, a face who she knew wouldn’t hurt her. “ oliver, ” she speaks, loud enough for her soldiers to hear. loud enough for them to know he’s a friend, not foe. she’s slipping down from her horse, quick & ungraceful. it’s been quite some time since she’d seen a face that reminded her of home.
