1. Today’s interaction involved my roommate, friends, and professors.
The power balance between my roommate and i is pretty much even. Neither one of us dominates the other in any way at all. We both pay for our housing and the same amount by the same deadline. Therefore leaving us with an equal balance share of power. But with equal power also comes boundaries so on the first day after getting to know each other we established a set of rules that we would both follow and if either one of us failed to do so, we talk to the RA.
The power balance between my friends and is very much even. Majority of my friends are my causing an equal balance of power. No one dominates the other, we are simply just our own bosses in other words.
The power balance between my professor is visibly uneven. My professor has the power to make me do things I do not wish to do be it homework, test, or quizzes. Because my professor has control of my grades he has power over me. Also, the fact that he/she would be older and more educated contributes to it all.
2. I can in a way see the intersections of age, gender, income, race, sexuality, and citizenship.
If someone is older than you then they would usually have power over you. When it comes to gender roles and power males often times hold the power over females because we now live in a man's worlds. Income also increases one’s level of power tremendously. Race won’t do much but it helps to be white in America. Citizenship too raises one’s power.
3. There aren’t really any political negotiations present in these relationship. I could say that there are some academic negotiations with my professors on the other hand. For example, when I turn in a late assignment and the professor agrees to a maximum of 70%.
4.The power dynamics with my roommate was created between the two of us coming to an agreement that we are both equal. The power dynamics with my friends also was created the same way that the power dynamics with my roommate was created. The power dynamics with my professor has been instilled in history for forever. Professors are seen as higher than their students. Because they have already completed their undergrad and much more depending on their area of study. I don't believe that anyone these power dynamics would ever change, especially the relationship and power dynamics with the professor.
