Her mother had a bit of a fling with a stallion who Vinyl has yet to share the identity of (other than with Octavia). By the time Vinyl found out she was expecting, said father was out of contact and Vinyl saw no reason in hunting him down (as if she'd expect him to drop everything in his life to be a dad). Beat has never really cared about knowing who her father is, her mom and Octavia being all she's ever needed.

When Vinyl found out she was pregnant, Octavia promised her friend that she'd be there to help her out and support her. Years later, Octavia still lives with her strange yet lovable family.

As Octavia likes to say, Beat is so much like Vinyl it's uncanny. Like her mother, Beat always wears her own pair of shades and isn't exactly conversational, but she at least speaks when she feels like it. When she does it's often in short sentences, which sometimes manifest as abrupt comments when ponies least expect it.

Being one of few words, Beat is instead pretty expressive behind her glasses. She is usually very calm and relaxed; the kind of pony who can go along with the flow and enjoy what it brings.

Her shades were probably a gift from both Octavia and Vinyl, and Beat is quite attached to them.

Beat may know how to play the cello to an extent, thanks to Octavia. She may have also gotten to know how to play the violin, and then a bit of piano. Also thanks to her upbringing, she immensely enjoys listening to a mix of strings and dubstep.
