Dear Sir,
As it is your policy to present entertainment to the labourers of your establishment, I would like to draw your attention to a band to the Quar “Beatals”.
This is a promising group of young musicians who play all music for all tastes, preferably rock and roll. They have won many competitions, including Carroll Levis and auditions for ATV. Unfortunately pedagogical activities have forced hindered them from devoting full themselves fill tine to the world of entertainment.
Hope you find this If necessary the group will give you an group is prepared for an audition. I hope you will be able to engage them.
Yours sincerely
Stu Sutcliffe (Manager)
A handwritten letter from Stuart Sutcliffe requesting an unknown organisation book the ‘Beatals’, dated 27th March 1960. Stu refers to himself as the groups manager here, and interestingly, it looks like he starts writing ‘Quarrymen’ before crossing it out for ‘Beatals’. This is the earliest known instance of the group using that name.
