Of Hyper Robots and Screaming Bees
For once, it's an actually sunny day at Edinburgh University, which EOS appreciates immensely. It means she can wait outside on the bench, watching the students bustling by around her. Certainly she draws a few glances, as any child sitting unattended with a very full backpack and tote bag by her feet would, but most are too busy with classes to do more than glance.
EOS has been looking forward to this trip for days now, ever since her friend Beatrix had offered to let her stay overnight while John was teaching. Even though she was a little reluctant to leave her programmer behind (you can never be too careful after all), EOS was also very excited about the prospect of a slumber party. She'd only read about these events, or seen them on (admittedly quite dated) children's sitcoms, but it seemed from all sources that no childhood was complete without experiencing one. She'd even packed for the occasion, with a bag full of embroidery thread and nail polish and hair clips. Of course, she'd remembered the essentials as well, like cute pajamas and a change of clothes, a brush for her synthetic hair and the adapter for her charger.
The hardest part is simply waiting to be picked up. With a sigh, she leans back, kicking her heels as she waits for her friend to come.
Cute headcanon: You can bet your lil bunny butt that when these two bake together, Beatrix totally smears flour across EOS's nose and cheeks and giggles at how adorable she looks.
((XDDDDD hehehehehee EXCELLENT! EOS probably huffs a little because it's so messy before realizing that it gets a good reaction and leaves it alone. XD She probably washes her face off pretty quickly once they're done, but baking with Bee is always a fun idea! X3 And if you catch her while she's having fun she's a lot less likely to fuss about things being messy too! ))
Beatrix flops into a sitting position behind EOS, "Now that I actually look at you, you've got a lot of hair. It's really pretty."
EOS jumps a little bit as Beatrix flops down behind her. It's not easy to sneak up on the little AI, but if she's sufficiently distracted it's possible to startle her a bit. She clutches the threads in her hand a little tighter so she doesn't lose the spot on the little knotted bracelet she's making.
"Hello, Beatrix!" she says with a smile, leaning her head back to attempt to look at her friend's face. The thick, gingery pigtails sweep back over her shoulders and hang in heavy curls down her back. "Is it unusual to have hair this thick? John threaded this model while Brains did the fine detail work on my platform. I couldn’t do it myself, both for a lack of knowledge of humans and a lack of... um... fingers at the time.“EOS wiggles one small, perfectly articulated hand (with slightly sloppy nail polish twinkling on the fingers) for emphasis. “But I'm glad you think it's pretty! Someday perhaps I'd like to see about having a few other colors to change to as well!"
It's very hard to sneak up on an intelligent AI. So Beatrix doesn't sneak. She walks straight up behind EOS before... Tickling her tummy relentlessly!!!
There's a very high pitched squeal as Beatrix startles EOS, and the small AI nearly falls over in her desperate attempt to hide her tummy. The touch sensors in her skin are sensitive and thankfully trigger a tickling sensation rather than pain. But it also means that it causes a great deal of uncontrollable giggling and wiggling as she attempts to hide.
"Beatrix!! That TICKLES!!" EOS shrieks, trying to find someplace to hide to escape from the tickle monster that is her friend.

It was quickly shaping up to be One Of Those Days for EOS. The latest in a long string of very subtly off days that set her systems on alert and had her jumping at shadows. Even the comms had been eerily quiet, especially for October which from last-year's trends should have been much more packed with activity. Whatever was up, EOS didn't like it, and had dragged a couple heavy blankets off her bed and down to the circular couches in the lounge.
Her programming normally dictated a "fight-or-flight" response for a potentially hazardous scenario, but there's no visible threats, nor anywhere she can exactly run to. So, instead, she turtles up on the couch under the blankets, attempting to put some kind of barrier between herself and the nebulous feeling of unease.
"It's okay." Once her mug is placed down, Bee presses play on the remote and settles herself behind EOS, getting a brush to brush out her friend's hair properly. "I like being... girly every once in a while. It's a great confidence booster."
EOS nestles in herself, cushioned by the pillows and blankets. "I am only truly coming to understand it recently. If I am honest, as an AI, I could not be considered to have anything resembling a gender, even though my voice sounded feminine. It was my own choice to look this way, and my own choice to be female. But it is also not an easy decision."
She picks up a piece of buttery popcorn from the bowl and turns it over in her fingers. "All of my understanding of being a girl come from what I can glean from movies and television and books. With the exception of Mrs. Tracy and Kayo, I have little contact with humans who could help, but I am trying to be the best i can be." The popcorn is leaving a buttery trail on her fingers but she doesn't seem to notice. "I have discovered, however, that I do enjoy wearing things that are... cute. Like dresses and things for my hair, and shoes with heels!" She pops the puffy kernel in her mouth with a crunch and a giggle. "Although I fall off the heels more than I stay on!"
By the time EOS has returned, Bee has set up the DVD, pilfered blankets from heaven knows where, and found a brush and some elastics to do her friends hair. "Ah, no, I'll take it." Beatrix smiles and takes the mug, murmuring a quiet 'ow, ow, ow' until she has a proper grip on the handle - where, funnily enough, it isn't hot. "Thank you, EOS." The woman grins at the sight of melting marshmellows, and makes her way over to place her mug down.
"Careful, Beatrix, it's awfully warm!" EOS cautions, putting some cushions from the sofas into a sort of nest and settling in with a blanket and the big bowl of popcorn tucked off the the side. This must be what it's like to have female friends, she realizes, thinking of all the television shows and movies she's run across with such magical, strange activities as sleepovers and girl's days and the like that she expected to never experience.
With gentle movements she removes the little beaded elastics from her hair and finger combs it out. "Thank you for doing this, Beatrix! I very much appreciate it. I... haven't really had many friends outside of the family, and you know just how busy the brothers can be. It..." She breaks off with a small sheepish giggle. "...It means a lot to me."
