1st place female 🥇 (after 3 or 4 guys? ~5th overall) in the Tombstone 5k at the Beatty Days Festival in Beatty, NV! 🥳 Super small town race, so paper champ af, but still! This Is Billie in the photo - she lives in this trailer in #BeattyNV.  Many people build front entrances or add to their trailers like Billie did. Notice the lawn furniture to the right in the picture - that's the back of the trailer.  And Billie's white car is parked in front.

Billie invited me in for a cup of coffee after she saw me taking pictures around her property.  Then we drove up to the senior center for lunch.

 I'd rather take pictures of someone after I've hung out with them for a while (if we're going to hang out), so I didn't take too many pictures that day.  But when I went back to visit, Billie was never home.  

Since Beatty has fewer than 1,000 residents, I counted on running into Billie a few more times before I left, but that didn't happen.   I'll be back to Beatty this winter.

Beatty #Beatty NV  used to be a thriving gold-mining town - but the last mine closed in 1998.  The railroad closed in 1940.  About a thousand people live in Beatty.

When it ran, the bus from Las Vegas to Reno made a stop in Beatty.  But the service was discontinued a few years ago. That meant when I visited, I had to rent a car in Las Vegas, the nearest airport.  I see on the Internet that a bus service has just been resumed - one bus a day.  That's good news for my next trip to Beatty this winter.  

There's no need to have a car in Beatty.  The restaurants, motels, market, candy store, post office, bars, library, etc. are all easy walks from each other.  

Business is not thriving in Beatty - many  For Sale, For Lease places around as in the picture above.  But notice the Welcome painted on the door - it's a friendly place.  

The motel where I stayed is across the road from this place in the picture.  You can just about make it out nestled in the reflected trees.

Lots of people in Beatty smoke. I really missed smoking when I was there. I quit decades ago and love the opportunity to get some second hand smoke.

Lote of people drink beer, too, which is something I found myself doing a lot of in Beatty.
