Their first argument. It was always going to happen at some point, no couple ever goes forever without an argument, but Beth had never thought it would be over something so silly as some socks getting caught up in the laundry. Had she not been so nauseous or tired when she went to get the laundry, maybe she wouldn’t have been annoyed when she saw what had happened. Maybe if she’d just taken a deep breath, counted to ten and taken a step back when she had seen the laundry, she wouldn’t have even text him, but it was done now and Beth felt awful.
After a slightly sniffly phone call to Sadie to see if she knew how to get the colour staining out of the couple of items that had turned pink, Beth had done everything she could to try and make things a little better for when Beau got home. With Ellie at Sam’s, Beth had tidied the firehouse before making his favourite dinner, a lasagne that was currently baking in the oven. Curled up on the couch in a pair of leggings and one of his Wilmington fire department hoodies, Beth pressed play on another episode of her Netflix marathon, her eyes glancing to her watch for the thirteenth time that minute.
