McDONALD THEATER, EUGENE
by Beau Stanton
Having won 31 NCAA track and field championships, the University of Oregonâs home in Eugene has become known as Tracktown, USA. Now scheduled to host the 2021 IAAF World Championships Eugene launched the 20X21 Mural Project and is already well on the way to completing 20 major murals by time the city welcomes the athletes of the world. One of the early participants in 2016 was California-born, Brooklyn-based Beau Stanton. Informed by historic ornamentation, religious iconography, and classical painting Stantonâs work takes many forms including paintings, murals, large scale installations, stained glass, mosaics, and multimedia animations. His meticulous craftsmanship is rarely taken on at this scale and he says this is his largest murals to date. The month-long project covered the highly visible 161â wall of Eugeneâs McDonald Theater, overlooking the bustling LTD bus station at Rosa Parks Plaza. @beaustanton/ @20X21EUG @goducks Â
