“I’m pregnant.” Jyn announces unceremoniously one morning. In Cassian’s arms, Kay wiggles insistently, squirms and kicks in his continued efforts to break free and slither onto the floor and away from the spoonful of mashed purple yam Cassian has been unsuccessfully trying to feed him all morning. His mother’s announcement does not deter him in the slightest.
Cassian can’t say the same for himself, his attention fracturing in two before it splinters further, doubles, quadruples, unravels into a loose tangle all over their morning meal.
