Beauty Gift Guide: By Recipient

As the holiday season approaches I've compiled a list of makeup and skincare items that I think would make great gifts. I've separated them into lists by type of person receiving them (this post) and by type of product (next post), then within those categories I've identified budget-friendly and not budget-friendly options. 

For the Makeup Newbie:  Save: 

Brush Essentials Kit from e.l.f.  ($12) Brushes may seem boring, but chances are your buddy who's new to makeup has 0 of them, and won't be able to use most of their other makeup gifts without them. 

Mid-range:

Lorac Pro To-Go ($38): Most palettes I've seen stick to one area of the face. This one's got a plethora of everyday (and dramatic) eyeshadows, two blush tones and a bronzer- short of a base, mascara and lipstick, that's everything a newb could ever need. And it has the plus of being from a really solid brand.  

Splurge:

Sephora Superstars ($75): This has literally everything a makeup beginner needs (and everything a makeup fiend adores), and is an insane value- two or three of these items put together probably cost more than the entire kit itself. Also, a perfume rollerball, beach-y hair stuff and nail polish make it superbly well-rounded.

For the Sophisticate: Save:

L'Occitane Shea Butter Trio ($16): A fancy brand, variety, moisturizing- these are the buzzwords to satisfying a sophisticated person without blowing your budget. 

Mid-Range:

NEST Rollerball ($25): This perfume brand is all the rage lately, and a rollerball of any of their classy scents is sure to please even the most finicky. 

Splurge:

Tom Ford lipstick ($50) Any makeup enthusiast would die to have a Tom Ford lipstick, especially in their most famous shade Black Dahlia. Classic, gorgeous and supremely luxe. 

For the Party Person (or modest person who you want to coax out of their shell):  Save: 

Sonia Kashuk Eyeshadow Quads ($13.99):  These glittery quads are crazy pigmented and perfect for a party look. Plus they're an affordable dupe for tons of high-end eyeshadows. 

Splurge: 

Sephora Favorites Glitz & Glam ($45): Whether you know someone who goes out hard every night, or you just want to help out a friend who's got a fancy event to go to- this set has it all; an awesome sparkly eyeshadow, red lipstick, dramatic liner, and even dry shampoo for when there's no time to wash.
