3.8.5-17,18 A Brief Summary, and Thoughts on a scene

Thenadier- ughh. That pretty much describes my sentiment since I last posted pretty much. :-) I just really don't like Thenadier- his manipulations, clear lack of care for his family as long as he gets money, just ugh.

On the bright side there was the scene with Courfeyrac and Bousset! I will always love the "man following a man"dialogue it's just fun and I want to see more of those two period.

But to talk about today's chapter.

Besides the usual for this section of not liking Thenadier (for now on I think that can be assumed.)

"horrible, friendly grimace" I find this mildly evocative- in the sense I can kinda picture it. I'm imagining one of those fake smiles that comes off not quite genuine and while not necessarily creepy does feel very off and not nice.

What I'm wondering is why does Leblanc/Fauchelevant/Valjean seem so calm? Does he realize that Fabantou/Jondrette/Thenadier is not at all trustworthy? Hugo describes him as looking cool in contrast to Leblanc's calm- I just wonder does he know he's being had? It wouldn't appear that way but I guess I'd like to think him more intelligent than that- though in his defense as the reader we've been seeing everything from the side of knowing what's really going on but it still makes me curious.

And what does Marius want to know? Is it too much to hope it's not related to him and his weird stalkery?
