Unpopular opinion: they should continue jaia instead of clace

Although my reasoning will definitely disappoint you, nonny.
I mostly think that because c.lace is endgame and will happen regardless of who Clary and Jace date while the story is happening. Therefore, seasons 2b and 3 were the moments to play a little bit with the character dynamics.
So yeah, I agree that Maia should be Jace’s love interest for now, and vice-versa. He needs someone like her, that will tough love him into a better version of himself and at the same time won’t be a constant reminder of his perils. At the same time, Simon and Maia had a shot before and Simon chose Clary instead of her. If S.aia was supposed to happen on the show (and hey, yes to that too), I wish it didn’t happen so quickly after C.limon broke up.
I want all of those characters to have time to breathe. Both Clary and Simon need time to adjust and adapt to their new lives as shadowhunter and downworlder specifically, while both Jace and Maia have some lingering love-related issues to overcome and find happiness. While the former two would benefit a lot from staying single and figuring out stuff on their own for a while, the later could use each other as support to grow as people.
Besides, Clary and Jace spent so much more time thinking that they were brother and sister than knowing it was okay to act upon the attraction they had for each other. Those are some confusing feelings that would’ve been better off given time to figure out. I personally need a connection between two characters to buy into a ship as more than fuck buddies, so “they had the hots for each other since day 1″ doesn’t read to me as enough of a reason to ignore the various weeks they thought they were related in just a couple of days. I would’ve liked if they were given the opportunity to be friends first.
Romantically wise, I don’t necessarily think j.aia would last until the end of the show but I certainly agree that it would be a hell of a ship to have during these “middle” seasons. Their dynamic is ah-mazing, the actors’ chemistry is off the charts, and they genuinely seem happy to spend time together. Both Jace and Maia deserve that.
Plus, that little knowing smirk they do when they talk about each other? That kills me every single time.
