Interesting theory about this “naughties nonsense” from a comment in a discussion forum:

Tumblr doesn't make any money

Oath/Verizon therefore wants Tumblr to die

If they formally kill it, they have to take a write-off on their financial statement and it will look bad to Wall Street

If they just drive everyone away by being awful, they can pretend that Tumblr is still worth something on their financial statements

the problem when you've been shipping something for nearly a decade is that it's fairly difficult to recover fics you read years ago if you don't even remember the title

Between livejournal continually going down at random, not being able to reblog anything on tumblr without a lot of difficulty, and photobucket last night not letting me upload more than one picture at a time, I am beginning to suspect that Mark Zuckerberg is behind all of this. Anyone else agree?
