"OUR SECOND MAN-DATE" (Beck Oliver x Sinjin Van Cleef one-shot)
Fluff involving brushing against each other and caressing. This happens during Victorious so don't expect any smut since they're minors.
| | |
A long (and tough) day at Hollywood Arts was coming to an end as Beck headed home. He had gotten into a heated argument with his girlfriend, Jade—something that wasn't exactly surprising.
This time, it was over glancing at an extra girl for a split second—even though Beck had coincidently been looking in her direction and hadn't even noticed the girl (or so he claimed).
All he wanted now was to get home, collapse onto his bed, and try to get some sleep—however difficult that might be.
After a few hours, the Indian-Canadian arrived at his destination. He parked his car behind the camper and got in.
Once inside, he halfheartly took off his shoes, hung his jacket on the coat rack and, as he'd wanted—collapsed onto his double bed. He closed his eyes and tried to fall asleep, to get the fight with Jade out of his head…
He was more than aware about Jade's frequent (and most times, exaggerated) jealousy. But was also kind of getting used to it.
That one argument they had was different than the others, though. Beck noticed how she would hide a joking or sarcastic smile while scolding him, then mutter something similar to "you're lucky you're cute."
But she didn't.
That's what was bugging Beck's mind: Jade sounded GENUINELY mad at him for something stupid.
'Just try to sleep.' he pleaded to his own conscience.
For a few seconds it seemed to work, until his cell phone rang. Beck reluctantly opened his eyes: "Who could it be...?"
He turned on his phone and saw the notifications…
It was a message from... Sinjin?
Not that it annoyed him, though. The dark-haired boy just didn't expect a message from him.
What could he message him for? Maybe he needed help with some invention... or wanted to ramble about his interests?
They weren't best friends or anything. Beck and Sinjin just were... Acquaintances, or atleast that was the first one's perspective.
Despite that, Beck didn't hate him or find him creepy at all.
In fact, what made Sinjin "creepy" seemed pretty cool to him. The redhead wasn't like his other classmates: fake, extremely perfect or doing anything for approval.
Sinjin was Sinjin no matter what anyone said. Nerd with peculiar fixations, but unique... and real.
Finally, the light brown-skinned boy opened the notification and carefully read the messages:
Hey Beck. Are you okay?
It's not like I was spying on you, but I noticed you had a nasty argument with Jade.
Want to talk about it?
-Sinjin 👾
Beck was dumbfounded once again. He hadn't expected Sinjin, of all people, to care about him.
But it was a surprisingly pleasant surprise.
No one noticed his mood, let alone wrote to express empathy. Not even Jade.
He replied immediately:
Hey, Sinj!
Don't worry about it. I've been worse.
He hesitated before going on; would he think it was too hasty? Or a waste of time?
Then he thought: It's Sinjin! He doesn't care about that sort of thing… So he wrote:
A little company wouldn't hurt tho…
Beck waited patiently for Sinjin to reply.
He received a response almost immediately:
Awesome! Can I come over to your place?
-Sinjin 👾
The guy with the fluffy hair couldn't help but smile as he straightened his posture on the bed. Sinjin was a good guy, no doubt about it.
He might be unconventional, but Beck would bet all he really needed was someone to stand by him and offer support.
Of course! Sending you the address right away 🙃

A few minutes later, Sinjin arrived at Beck's house.
The guy with the afro knocked on the door.
Inside, Beck had a collection of video games, along with drinks and snacks on a coffee table.
Hearing the knock, he got up from the bed and opened the door.
"Sinjin! Welcome, come on in," Beck stepped aside so the boy in question could enter the house.
"Thanks, Beck! I'm glad we can have our… SECOND MAN-DATE." Sinjin said with a mischievous smile.
"I already told you: This is NOT a date." The Canadian replied in the same joking tone.
"We'll see about that, lumberjack..." The boy with glasses nudged him with his elbow.
A pause... Then, they laughed. Neither of them could take that seriously.
They both walked in, with Sinjin closing the door behind him.
Then, he noticed the video games on the table.
"No… way! You have the very first Mortal Kombat ever made?!" he exclaimed, his eyes lighting up like a kid at an amusement park through his glasses.
"And it's not the only one I have…" Beck said with a genuine smile. Not a fake smile or a mocking smirk like he usually did.
He really enjoyed seeing Sinjin happy, and that they shared more than one thing in common.
Immediately, the nerd looked at the video games that were beneath Mortal Kombat. He couldn't believe it: Beck had classics in his house!
"Mario Kart… Zelda… Final Fantasy VII?! I didn't think you were into video games, honestly, but y'know what? you're AWESOME." Sinjin admitted, pleasantly surprised.
"Didn't you think I was awesome before? Oh, you really hit me in the gut!" Beck said dramatically, putting a hand to his forehead as if he were about to faint.
"Yeah, I did think that… But now, you're even more awesome!" Sinjin burst out laughing at Beck's dramatic gesture.
"Okay, less talk and more video games, shall we?" Beck said, having already forgotten his argument with Jade thanks to Sinjin's enthusiasm.
"Oh, ho, ho! I'll beat you at every single one!" Sinjin exclaimed excitedly and defiantly.
"Excuse me? You're talking to the Mario Kart champion ten times in a row!" Beck said with the same arrogance.
"You're lying…" Sinjin crossed his arms, enjoying the occasional banter with Beck.
"You'll see I'm not, moldy hair!" Beck exclaimed, not really mocking him, but teasing, just like Sinjin. As he spoke, he ruffled Sinjin's hair.
The boy with glasses was stunned by the contact. Hardly anyone touched his hair, since most considered it stiff or greasy just by looking at it.
But there was Beck. He ruffled his hair and, to top it all off, looked him in the eyes with that playful, radiant smile...
While Sinjin was rethinking his entire existence —"I didn't notice how handsome he was... wait, am I gay?"—, Beck turned on the TV and connected Mario Kart to it.
"Come on, sit down! Don't be shy." Beck said gently, as he sat down on the bed himself.
Sinjin snapped back to reality upon hearing the calm and reassuring voice of his… friend? acquaintance? crush?
He didn't really know after that little caress of his hair.
He tried to push away the thoughts of how handsome Beck was and casually sat down next to him, grabbing his gamestick.

Several hours passed, and they were still playing Mario Kart.
Sometimes Beck's phone rang, but at this point, he didn't care anymore.
All he cared about was spending the day with Sinjin, and nothing else.
They playfully laughed at each other if they lost and cheered each other on if they won. Beck also occasionally shared some V-Gang gossip with Sinjin.
He was like his messenger, since the red-haired afro-wearer wasn't included in that group.
And Sinjin really appreciated that.
He wasn't that close to them since they considered him a weirdo… even weirder than Robbie (which they weren't wrong about, but they were both equally misfits)
But Beck wasn't like the rest. He didn't judge him for who he was, nor did he tell him to shut up when he talked about his interests.
In fact, the light brown-skinned guy listened attentively every time he did. As if he were genuinely interested in what he talked about… Even if he didn't understand it sometimes.
They were both so engrossed in the video game that they didn't notice their shoulders brushing against each other.
They were too close to be 'just acquaintances'… But they didn't really care.
They were focused on spending time together, after so long since the drag race.
And Jade bombarded Beck with more and more messages, probably asking where he was and why he wasn't answering her (and maybe a violence threat or two).
But Beck and Sinjin were tired of playing so much, so Beck turned off the TV and unplugged Mario Kart.
"I… I had a lot of fun with you, Beck," Sinjin murmured, unusually shy.
"Same here, Sinj." He smiled sweetly at him.
A comfortable silence followed, then—
"You were a worthy opponent," he said, in that irreverently dramatic tone.
"Yeah, and I beat you 4 out of 7 times! Who's the Mario Kart champion now, huh?!" The geek retorted, reverting to his usual tone.
"Oh, shut up! I let you win… Couldn't take all the credit," Beck said with mock arrogance.
They both laughed as Sinjin got out of bed and headed for the door.
"…Wait." Beck stopped him.
"Don't you want to stay the night? My parents are out of town."
Sinjin turned to face him, not expecting the invitation.
But it was very kind of him; he couldn't refuse.
"Sure! …Thanks."
"Don't mention it. It's freezing cold at this hour." Beck said, lying down on the bed.
The redhead slowly approached the bed and lay down beside him.
He hesitated, wondering whether to get any closer to Beck… what if it made him uncomfortable? Would it only make things more awkward if he didn't get closer?
Before he could decide, Beck unconsciously placed his hands around his back, pulling Sinjin closer to his chest.
Sinjin didn't seem to mind at all. He could feel Beck's slow, warm breathing, and how Beck rested his chin on his head.
Was this normal between acquaintances? He didn't care.
… Beck was dating Jade, though.
Sinjin used to like the goth girl, but after talking more with Beck, he decided to distance himself.
Stealing an acquaintance's girlfriend? It wasn't right.
But…
Had the tables turned, and now he liked that acquaintance?
No. It couldn't be.
Sinjin was a straight guy through and through. He loved women, and he'd never seen or thought about a guy that way.
It was impossible that he could suddenly like a friend.
Impossible…
"Goodnight, Sinj" Beck whispered, his eyes already closed, still holding Sinjin close.
…
Damn. That soft, affectionate tone really got to the nerd.
"Goodnight, Beck."
Maybe…
It wasn't so bad that Sinjin liked his friend.
After all…
This was their SECOND MAN-DATE
THE END.

I've been watching tiktok about trans!Robbie Shapiro, and as much as I love this hc, I think Nickelodeon really meant to played on stereotypes (and I mean all of them : the religious ones, the lgbtqia+ ones, the cultural ones etc.)
Except they played on stereotypes very much — maybe too much — that they ended making a trans ftm character without knowing it, along with others lgbtqia+ characters.
And I cannot talk if this is accurate or not because I'm not trans, but as I am aroace, I can also talk about my hc of Beck Oliver being aroace because it is accurate too (Beck's behavior is so aroace coded/implied sometimes).
So we can somehow say thank to D*n Sch... (idk how to write his name, the problematic producer of most Nickelodeon shows) and Nickelodeon themselves for give us lgbtqia+/queers representation in our childhood tv shows.
I recently headcanon Beck Oliver from Victorious as aroace, because if I'm rewatching the show in my head, all my Beck's scenes are very much aroace coded/implied to me... And it driving me crazy !!!
Beck Oliver from Victorious is aroace!
HEAR ME OUT !!!
Aroace Beck Oliver who isn't interested in any kind of relationship except friendship, and Lesbian Jade West who only dated Beck because he's handsome and so she thought she was bisexual.
Like Beck never dated before and when he started at Hollywood Arts, all the girls (and boys), Jade included, found him handsome and wanted to date him.
But for Beck, he thought “dating” meant just hanging out with his friends and having fun moments. So when Jade ask him out, he said yes and discovered they have a lot of interests in common (or so he thought because Jade was faking having the same interest as him so they could be together).
So they started hanging out more often and Jade mistook it for dating, because they never went pass that part but it was ok for her (she was with the hottest guy of school).
But she's started to get very possessive and jealous towards Beck every time he would talk to another girls, which is something Beck didn't understand why she was like that, especially considering they were just best friends from his pov.
Then Tori Vega come on the board and Jade start developing feelings for her, later realizing that she's actually lesbian and in love with Tori.
