Be the person that you needed.

I’m one of those kids that grew up saying “I would never be like EITHER of my parents” but end up being just like BOTH of my parents except only their bad traits and 100000000 times worse
Will I ever know what it feels like to have someone I love actually love me back?

Dear everyone who sees “fashion and art students” as unintelligent,
I’m a fashion student who has been labeled “the artist” throughout my high school career at a very hard-science and mathematically driven school in Asia. Basically, everyone thought I was incompetent and wasn’t smart enough to focus on physics or molecular biology as a major.
Today I was talking to someone about future plans, and when I mentioned I wanted to study fashion and become a designer, they laughed. Laughed. “The sciences must of been too hard for you.”
It is a common stereotype within society, especially in Asia, that all art students only study art because they’re unable to do anything else, and will eventually become what is known as “a struggling artist.”
So, you can imagine the surprise on my AP Computer Science teacher’s face when I joined the class three weeks late and still got the class’s top score on our first quiz--and when I managed to stay at the top for the rest of the year. Half of the entire class was part of our school’s award-winning robotics team.
I’m guessing you can also imagine the surprise on all of my classmates’ faces when my AP Statistics teacher announced that I, along with another classmate--the student council president, upcoming valedictorian, robotics leader who led his team all the way to worlds--were tied at the top of the class.
Throughout the entire 4 years of high school I had never seen anything below an A- in my report cards. I graduated half a year early in December with a cumulative GPA of 4.0. University of Toronto, with its 11th place world-wide ranking in computer science, was my back-up school. I had already been accepted into college and was planning on starting my postsecondary studies half a year early in January for the Spring Term.
I did not write this post to show off my “accomplishments” or my good grades-- I’m writing this post to say that people should not be labeled under stereotypical categories. So to all those out there that automatically categorize Art and Fashion students as “stupid,” not all artists are logically incompetent. Not all fashion students are “vain” girls seeking glamour. Some artists had the choice between what they had a passion for and what could guarantee them fancy cars and penthouses.
Just something to think about.
You can't wish to be strong but then hate the world for how it pushes you to become what you wished to be.

Life takes something away from you when it feels you are ready for something even better.
