I like this idea. Yo! Kripke, Edlund! Make it so!
So I'm watching the Smile Time episode of Angel and just realizing how much I LOVE Ben Edlund episodes. He steps into shows that have sometimes gotten into a bit of a rut and shakes things up and lets the pieces fall in really interesting new ways. Part of that is giving us hilarious and unexpected things like Muppet Angel and the Winchesters being banished to a TV set. But he also gives characters a chance to come into focus, to call each other on their crap, and to hone the direction the overall stories are taking. He's brilliant and funny and makes things gel.
[about Nina liking Angel]
Angel: Wes, it's not gonna happen.
Wesley: Why?
Angel: Because I'm not that guy! That guy is charming and funny and... emotionally useful. I'm the guy in the dark corner with the blood habit and 200 years of psychic baggage.
Wesley: Get over it!
Angel: Why are you yelling at me?
Wesley: Because! Angel, if there's a woman out there, who you find truly attractive, who you think about, let's say, most of the time, who represents even part of what you think makes the world worth fighting for, and who doesn't view you as an entirely sexless shoulder to lean on, you have to do something about it.
Angel: How are we talking about here?
Also, just try and tell me this wasn't one of the best things to ever happen on television.
Unfortunately it has been confirmed that Ben Edlund will not be writing for Supernatural season 9, he's going to work on Revolution with Eric Kripke
