#mastodonmonday this week brings out their 2011 album, The Hunter. Their fifth studio effort drops the idea of conceptual narrative in order to produce a straight up heavy metal album, not really falling into any particular theme throughout, but showing how far he band has developed musically. The growls and gritty crunch of old are still there, but they're in large part relegated to the background in favour of more melodic vocals and sweeping guitar work. Speaking technically, there's not a lot of new ground covered, and the soundscape is reminiscent of a super-heavy Led Zeppelin, which fans and critics alike responded to positively. Definitely worth a go. Highlight tracks include Curl Of The Burl, Stargasm, the title track, Bedazzled Fingernails, and The Sparrow. Available on iTunes and Spotify. Solid cardio session, solid weight work, all whilst battling against a glitch in game lightning adapter that kept trying to open Siri or voice controls and kept fucking with the playback.
