Cared for a brain injury patient last night who asked for a high five anytime I asked them “what else can I get for you right now?” Made my whole shift 😭

This morning I got report from two fully fledged nurses that I once had as students and I’m having feelings about it
There have been a few people on my unit who are incredulous at the idea that anyone would come back to bedside nursing and when they say that to me it’s just like. Yeah. You’re burnt out as fuck and should probably leave. I was too! It turns out four years and a lot of therapy help with that
Not saying returning is for everybody, but it IS fucking wild what stepping away when you need to step away will do for your longevity in the profession
In reality I know I need to give myself more time to settle in before I make a real assessment of the situation but wow I love night shift this is the way I prefer to Nurse
