I was just on a plane so here are the thoughts I had about MBS at the airport/while flying

they generally just wreak havoc and leave chaos in their wake as per usual

the kids all want window seats. Contance and Kate are the ones who end up getting them, because Sticky is too shy to admit he wants it and Reynie is a polite boy and gives it to them

Mr. Benedict secretly also really wants the window seat but would of course never take it for himself but he just really really internally wants to look out the window

they all sit on the floor while they’re waiting to board and are just those people who are shamelessly sprawled on the ground, eating snacks, playing some game and laughing hysterically

imagine it’s like just the adults or just Milligan and Mr B flying late at night and they’re tired and Mr B falls asleep slumped against Milligan while they sit on a bench waiting

Shapeshifting magic by flight

Light: Able to cast projections and mirages that obscure the form of the caster, another individual, or a targeted area. Projections can animate and move, but require full concentration of the caster to remain seen. Can range from simple refractions of color to fully rendered dragons, beastclans, animals, or anything else that can be imagined. Mirage Balls where attendants mask their true forms with fashionable “costumes” are a popular form of social entertainment among Light’s well-to-do.

Fire: Smoke and ash generated by lava or fire can be manipulated and held close to the caster’s body or launched outward to form writhing shapes. These shapes can be finely controlled to suggest bodily form or whipped into a billowing frenzy to intimidate large crowds or suffocate enclosed spaces to draw enemies out of hiding. Caster has limited movement while manipulating. These ash clouds are also used for a type of shadow acting originating within the caverns of the Great Furnace. Fire dragons will often put on entire plays animated solely by ash-smoke puppeteers.

Arcane: Directly pierces the mind of the target with a psychic link to create an image in their field of vision. Can create illusions of outside threats, convince the target that their own body has been changed or altered, or convince the target that the caster has taken on a different form. Requires concentration of both the caster and target; neither can move until the connection. Is widely feared as a form of psychological warfare, but is also used as a very intimate form of personal connection between trusting partners.

Shadow: Shadow-innate dragons use their personal stores of permeable bodily ichor to expand and contract their bodily tissue. The caster can change their form to exaggerate certain bodily or facial features, create additional bulk to absorb physical blows, and add weight to limbs for stronger attacks. They can also project their ichor outwards to form solid blades, clubs or prehensile grips. Ichor can also be used to possess flora and fauna native to the Tangled Wood, but cannot be used to possess non-shadow dragons. Advanced users can mold their ichor to change the color and texture of their flesh, and are able to effectively mold themselves into near-perfect duplicates of whoever they wish. Competitions are often held in the Forum of the Obscured Crescent to see which dragon can best imitate a deity or celebrity.
