Real quick I want to share what my parent got my gran for Christmas because I think it's so cute.

We usually default to plants for her if we can't think of anything else but last year I got her an insect hotel and that seems to be the new alternative.

I've just looked myself and if you type in "artisanal bee hotel" it should come up on a few different sites.

I finally got a good look at the other species of bee that lives in the hotel.

I'll need to take a closer look at who exactly they are. It's a little tricky because it's the same colour as the rest of the wood but in both these pictures you can see her fiddling with a bit of chewed up nesting material, they're constantly going in and out of the different nests so I think they're occupying a few larders, but there's at least six or seven individuals using this hotel, maybe more. Only the two species so far.

Messing around with the Meike MK300 flash, no diffuser because I was in a hurry but it came out surprisingly good. Burns through its batteries like no one's business though.

Also a nice portrait of one of the Allodapula chilling in her nest.
