A pair of Common Blue butterflies waiting for the sun to come out.
I witnessed quite a battle on the Main Lake at WWT Castle Espie Wetland Centre this morning.
A pair of Common Terns have a nest on the raft.
A Cormorant climbed onto the raft to dry its wings after fishing.
The Terns were not impressed and the male bird started dive-bombing the intruder.
After twenty minutes he flew off - seemingly giving up - only to return in minutes with reinforcements; a detachment of four more Common Terns from the Saline Lagoon squadron.
They all started dive-bombing the Cormorant which quickly realised that the odds had shifted and left the raft.
All six triumphant Terns then flew victory laps of the lake - marvellous!
A proper nature drama 😎
A pair of mating Meadow Brown butterflies.
A new family of Tufted ducklings out on the water for the first time.
Look closely - a tiny young Little Grebe peering out from behind its parent, waiting for a feed.
Possibly the cutest thing I’ve ever seen 😍
