Got to experience my first bee shipments yesterday!! It was so cool. Our Queen Crew is a group of amazing ladies who are the absolute backbone of the farm. They not only build all of our equipment by hand, but they also breed our special, mite resistant queens which we use and sell. They are also very talented bee keepers of course, and help us catch and box up bees in safe little wooden containers for shipment and sale at the shop.
Yesterday I was fortunate to witness the Queen Crew catching some worker bees to sell for sting therapy. There is quite a large group of people in the world who feel like the sting of the honey bee has medicinal value, and we safely ship them live bees for their personal use. You can see Ana Rosa in this video expertly plucking little worker bees and placing them through a very small hole in the wooden travel box for safe keeping. The travel box also has a block of sugar food in it to keep the bees happy in transit.
