Unpopular opinion wooo! Q-taro is a rlly good character, and honestly a nice guy. Yes I know he has done some bad stuff such as trying to throw the kids under the bus, and trying to escape solo/ escapes even if it kills everyone. But nobody acknowledges his growth at all. I would say out of the entire yttd cast he's changed himself for the better the most. But nobody acknowledges it at all :,( he had truly grown into a good person. You guys are just MEAN

I’m worried that my meta I wrote about a week ago sounded like I was criticizing Q-taro or calling him a bad character, so just in case it came across that way I want to clarify that I wasn’t trying to do that, I was trying to explain why I think people dislike him. I’m actually kind of surprised at how many people don’t acknowledge his growth, because his character arc is one of the most linear of all the arcs in the game. He starts out as a rather selfish person with no motivations other than a drive for survival and confidence in his own strength; this is evident in his boastful distrust of others during Russian Roulette and his immediate nomination of the children, the ones he considers least helpful to his own survival. His cruelty culminates with his willingness to sacrifice everyone and escape... but he begins to get better from there! In the “Alice lives” route, Q-taro pushes the button to save Gin, potentially sacrificing his own life. He then proceeds to vote for Shin’s death in the main game, even saying “Keiji!! Sacrificin’ a kid for the sake of adults... That’s a demonic choice you just can’t make!!” And, by chapter 3, he’s giving a speech about cooperation and unity. This is one of the most straightforward character arcs I’ve ever seen, and it’s amazing how far he’s come since the beginning of the game. I actually find it fascinating, as well, how his developing character might come to contrast with that of other characters. For example, Keiji and Q-taro started out the game as the two “strong men.” Q-taro was presented as a selfish asshole who immediately distrusted Sara and considered her weak, whereas Keiji, though suspicious, was presented as intelligent and reliable and vouched for us on numerous occasions. By chapter 3, though (especially notable in the quote I referenced above), Q-taro has become a kind and benevolent team player while Keiji’s more selfish and nasty side has begun to show. I’ve also said this before, but I love that Q-taro gets an arc that enables him to value trust and compassion more :) maybe he can be a himbo after all.
