What if I told you that Mai’s backstory of being a service worker is incredibly important to her relationship with Qtaro? That baking is her dearest passion but she’s forced to put on a smile and act cute with customers, and the way she acts with Qtaro in the beginning is her deep in customer service mode, flirting and acting like she’s dumb as a brick and Qtaro rejects this, and finds that who he enjoys is the real Mai. That she can be her unapologetic self, the person who literally stabbed him, and he loves her for it more than weird customers, and she can act the way she likes around him? That the next time she’s able to fall into an act again is when she watches Qtaro die? What would you do?
