-`♡´- Beelzenian beauty standards require both men and women to be overweight, as fat is associated with wealth, health and noble origin. The ideal body is unattainable for anyone who isn't rich enough to afford excess of food and servants to assist in everyday tasks.
Some people go as far as inventing special diets to gain weight. For example, Maylis was extremely self-conscious as a teenager and tried multiple diets, but no matter what she wasn't even considered chubby by Beelzenian standards. Her siblings either tried to comfort her or teased her for being "tiny" and "scrawny". She learnt to accept herself as she grew up, but was always insecure and envious of her siblings deep down inside.
On the other hand, Banica was considered conventionally attractive before the contract and was popular with men and women. She was also praised both by her dad and by Juno (do I need to say that Muzuri was an eligible bachelor in his younger years, and Juno was always called a beauty?) back when she started enjoying food and gaining weight as a kid. Banica was really upset and confused when she realised Carlos calling her fat behind her back wasn't meant as a compliment.
I'm aware this contradicts canon, and that's exactly why I'm writing this! I refuse to believe that society where the majority of ruling class is fat has generic European beauty standards.
