As you already know from the previous post, I am in a costant struggle with the Wifi connection but tonight I am lucky enough to upload some pictures of the past weekends outside Beirut, so I’ll be brief.
I went on a motorcycle ride on the mountains around Faraya, north of Beirut. 110 km on a motorbike, with a stop in the forest and one at the Emperor of sfiha, a small shop where you can eat the famous lahm bi ajeen, bread with beef or lamb meet, tomato, cilantro, olive oil and laban, the homemade lebanese yogurt. So delicious!
Then a trip to the region of Chouf, south-east of Beirut, where he Emirs of Lebanon used to have their residence. In the pictures Moussa castle with its beautiful colourful glass windows. The building was built by a Lebanese visionaire after the girl he was in love with told him she would marry a rich man with a castle. No sooner said than done!
Finally, the Beeqa Valley again. This time to visit the Roman temple complex of Baalbek a Phoenician city that is counted among the wonders of the ancient world. The ruins of the temples of Jupiter, Bacchus and Venus are well preserved, as well as the fortifications around the complex. It is well worth a visit!
