I have an overabundance of beermats than I know what do with, so I've been trying to find alternative purposes for them, and immortalising my friend's favourite book/TV/movie/music/life quotes seemed like a pretty good way to flex my artistic muscles

‘Launch’ event, beermats delivered, 12 were framed and put on the walls. Josh and I were interviewed briefly about the project and the mats are now in situ, getting beer soaked, dog earred, creased and flipped.

Hopefully, also read and if lucky slipped into a pocket for collection….

To go into frames, protected and preserved, for the longevity of the ephemeral object to outlast their peers and remain clean for all to see and read. Unchanging a solid record of the story and objects.

1000 beermats

Screen-printed in the workshop, huge thanks to Andy for helping me with this! No way i could have done it without his expertise and experience! Technicians are amazing!

Bloody knackered now, time to let them dry, put them in an order and select my ‘perfect’ prints for the more permanent display.

Proof of concept.

The beermats I make for the pub will all end up being beer soaked and eventually most will end up in the bin, I hope many are taken and collected more than are thrown, but even if that’s not the case a few will be framed and have a legacy in the pub (for a minimum contracted time of three months). I want the permanent display to still be scattered around, investigated and interactive as a beermat is, I’ve sourced these frames that fit a mat inside perfectly. So instead of offering the pub a large printed piece of artwork to force them to remove something they already have to fit my artwork into their pub, i propose these smaller frames to scatter around and fit snugly in the gaps. Adding to the sense of adventure and treasure hunting that the items the decorate the pub already have.

The frames will spin easily allowing them to be interacted with, but i should be able to secure them to the walls and seal up the frames so they can’t be removed.

Beermats soon!

Beermats are nearly ready to be printed, just a few spelling and grammar checks. Andy is going to help put these onto screens for me so we can screen print the mats. Hopefully the text will be ok to print! I’ve had to edit these wonderful stories down a bit, but hopefully this is something that adds to the folk nature of storytelling within a pub. Rather than something that could take away from the voices of the pub visitors
