“Hey!” Yelling felt wrong, dangerous even. It had been so long since Griffin had raised his voice that at first he wasn’t sure it would carry. But it did. Griffin was quick to step in their path with his knife raised. If they had a gun then this whole charade was over. One pull of the trigger and Griffin would be blown away. The echo of a gun roared in his ears and Griffin half-braced himself for the punch from bullets that would surely come. But it didn’t. Griffin dared to breathe and take a step forward.

“You need to stay away from here.” The grip on his knife tightened. Griffin had never killed before. He wasn’t sure he could. Putting down the dead was a lot different than dropping a living breathing person. “This place? It’s ours now. You’re not welcome.”

“How did you learn so much about this stuff?” Earth stained hands gently packed down the dirt around a new plant, Alex pausing to pull away a dead leaf before sitting back on his heels and brushing off his hands. He glanced sideways, brown gaze watching as Ben packed down the earth around his own plant. The plants smelled like tomatoes but that was the extent of Alex’s farming knowledge. He was much more well versed in marsh plants or types of fish and how to catch them. “Farming. You know things that you couldn’t have picked up just reading books.”

it didn’t hurt anymore , which made eric’s boredom all the more apparent . while his ankle was still bouncing back && forth between an annoying throb && a deep ache , keeping his mind occupied had been simple ; as long as he wasn’t thinking about the pain all was well but with time to think things other than ouch , husband sanctioned was starting to get to him ; enough so that eric , with one crutch under his arm , had taken to pacing community streets in search of something ( ANYTHING ) to do .

a sun filled afternoon found eric bumping elbows , quite literally , with one of their newest recruits , an apologetic smile gracing his face as a few hops backwards gave them some space . ❝ sorry ! haven’t really gotten the hang of the whole not walking on one of my legs even though it’s right there and probably perfectly fine thing . ❞

Bucky was aware that Ben was only going a few miles to meet up with a group from another community to swap goods, but he wasn’t going to let Ben go by himself either. He knew exactly what kind of people were out there. He was thankful he came along when, halfway to their meeting spot, a group of men ambushed them. Bucky didn’t hesitate to tell Ben to take cover while he jumped out of the horse-drawn carriage and ran towards them. Maybe he was risking blowing his cover by blocking their fire with the arm, he never explained that bullets couldn’t pierce it. He wasn’t thinking of that when he took all three of them on armed with only a knife and his arm. They didn’t stand a chance, when it was over Bucky made sure he sank a knife into every skull before he returned to the carriage.

❝They’re dead, it’s safe.❞ He said, not really thinking of personal space when he helped Ben out of the carriage and checked him over for wounds. He gave the younger male what some might consider a hug as he ran his flesh hand over Ben’s back to check for blood. ❝You’re not hurt?❞ He asked once he was sure he’d checked every vital area.

Jesus, watching Ben from across the courtyard? Yeah, definitely. The younger man fascinated him, he tended to stare a lot because of it. Ben didn’t always notice but this time he did. Jesus gave him a smile before he strolled over and wrapped Ben up in a hug. He nearly didn’t, he wasn’t sure if they were at the hugging just because phase. It wasn’t long ago that he was admitting to his feelings, after all. ❝I thought you came to Alexandria to keep an eye on me. Should I be jealous that Siddiq is getting more of your attention?❞
