technically speaking there are only three fully-diminished seventh chords. similarly, there are only four augmented triads.

i guess technically that’s true because all the diminished 7th chords invert into other chords, but it’s also not really true. like it all depends on the notes and chords around it, and whatever note the bass is playing. also the reason they invert into other chords is because they’re harmonically ambiguous, it’s like inverting a sus chord. when u throw a tritone in there it could basically be fucking anything honestly
