Beetle wing necklaces
As I've mentioned before in a post about Egyptian jewel beetles, necklaces made of beetle wings are a quite old concept, and still part of the traditional jewelry of some groups. These necklaces, in my experience, are usually simple: elytras strung on a cord. These can get a little more complicated in design, especially in particular cultural traditions. These necklaces aren't traditional, and try to incorporate the elytra into modern designs.
Going to renfaire this weekend so of course I’m doing a beetle-themed outfit! The first two photos are my concepts/ideas, the video is how it’s going so far! What do you guys think? 🪲⚔️🛡️✨
I wonder if I could make reusable press on nails out of beetle elytra
In a historical costuming induced frenzy I once discovered that you can buy big enormous bags of beetle elytra on eBay for relatively cheap. They look like this:
and recently while I was looking at press on nails online I realized that my ideal press on nails basically make it so that I have elytra finger tips, something like this:

would artificial nail glue work on beetle elytra? I'd have to do some shaping of the elytra to get them to fit (and from the process I researched for preparing elytra for embroidery, it can be kind of a hassle) but like. They look cool as shit and I bet they'd be fairly sturdy.
