Volkswagen unveiled its newest beetle concept car for the first time in the United States this weekend at the Los Angeles International Auto Show held in Orange County, California. The groovier version of the popular VW Beetle drew plenty of attention from Volkswagen fans for its sporty exterior styling. The VW Beetle R is intended to be of the same class as the existing Golf-R with a race-inspired design and performance.
Featuring over 25 other North American car debuts, the LA International Auto Show is a premier auto event for car enthusiasts across the west coast. At the show, California Volkswagen gave participants the opportunity to check out the newest Beetle concept, the VW Beetle R. VW Beetle fans will agree that the VW Beetle R is a sleeker, sportier version of its already updated sibling. Built for the track, the VW Beetle R features wider bumpers in front and in back giving it a more aggressive stance. The front hood has three air intake vents to cool the radiator and brakes giving it a meaner, don’t mess with me attitude. The debut model also showed off 20” chrome five spoke racing wheels with the traditional “R” blue brake calipers.
Volkswagen also adds style to the Beetle R with a sporty rear spoiler and dual exhaust pipe. Glossy black paint accents the Beetle R exterior features including the intake valves, mirrors, and roof panels. Furthermore, smooth Napa leather envelopes the racing style seats throughout the interior. With sporty round instrument panels and all the technological gadgets Beetle fans expect, the VW Beetle R takes the driving experience up a notch.
The Volkswagen Beetle R was not the only VW car to premier at the California auto show. The Volkswagen CC was also presented in its World Debut during the event. It also featured updated styling and improved performance specs. Orange County Volkswagen car fans can learn more about both models this week during the event. However, if you cannot make it to the show, you can always stop by your local Orange County Volkswagen dealership in Santa Ana for more information.
Just a short distance from Los Angeles, Commonwealth Volkswagen is located in Santa Ana, California and offers car fans a wide selection of new and pre-owned Volkswagen cars to view and test drive. They carry everything from the spunky new 2012 VW Beetle to the 2012 Volkswagen CC, or the Motor Trend “Car of the Year” 2012 VW Passat. Commonwealth Volkswagen is dedicated to providing the best buying experience in Orange County and offers friendly sales and service assistance to California drivers. Stop by after the show to experience the new VW Beetle yourself or to test drive the 2012 VW CC.
While we may have to wait until 2014 to see the sporty VW Beetle R on the streets o Santa Ana, VW Beetle fans can definitely check out the new 2012 VW Beetle. Like the Beetle R, it features a wider stance, updated styling, a comfortable leather interior option, and still delivers the spunk and fun so well associated with the Beetle name.

Frankfurt Motor Show: Volkswagen Beetle R Concept
What's lurking under the hood? Well, while Volkswagen avoided giving a direct answer to that question, the Germans outlined their intentions by saying that the Beetle R is the third variation of the 'R' family after the Golf R (199 kW / 270 PS) and Scirocco R (195 kW / 265 PS), both of which use a 2.0-liter TFSI four-banger.
VW added, "as an “R”, the Beetle could demonstrate a performance potential similar to that of the Golf R and Scirocco R," which pretty much answers our question, meaning that if or rather when, the Beetle R enters production, it will most likely be powered by the same powertrain delivering somewhere between 260 and 270-horses.
