Matilda (1996) 10/10

A real classic feel-good film. Whenever I need something...that warms me from head to toe, I watch this film with a warm snack and just feel safe and happy while watching it. I'd be really surprised if anyone my age hasn't already seen this film, but because of how much I personally feel like it shaped my childhood, I firmly believe that everyone should watch it.

Nobody Knows I’m Here (2020)

Honestly it’s kind of a bad movie. The cinematography is fantastic, but the story doesnt make any sense. The relationships are underdveloped, the past trama was underdeveloped, and the protagonist’s goals were underdeveloped as well. The character as a whole was one dimensional, and he has so much potential not to be. The concept for the story was a good stepping stone for an even better story, just one more in depth and detailed. The acting is really good considering what the actors were given. I’m just so disappointied because it could’ve been so good.

Surfs Up (2007)

An animated mockumentary about surfing flightless birds? Yes, please! This movie was hilarious as a child, and it’s even funnier as an adult. I could talk about how this movie is the pinnacle of comedy for literal hours. No other film has made me scream laugh quite like this one, maybe John Mulaney but they're pretty even.

Ratatouille (2007)

*Chef’s kiss* Literally! Genuinly one of the greatest Disney Pixer movies of all time the romance is a background story line, but the rat standing up to his family’s expectations of him and doing what makes HIM happy is a message that has affected me as a child in the best possible way. The idea that one should be happy despite what your family thinks is something that deserves to be normalized.

The Bookshop (2017)

Dir.  Isabel Coixet

✨Cottagecore!✨ Super cute film about books and a small villiage community! It makes me want to start reading and collecting books again! The music reminds me of The Little Prince’s soundtrack. The style of Coixet is one that I throughly enjoyed and I’m looking forward to seeing more of their work.

Lady and the Tramp (1955)

A good wholesome Disney movie, no weird racial/sexist things that need to be reevaluated in today’s climate, just cute doggies.

Passport to Paris (1999)

It’s a cute nostalgic movie, there’s some romance which is a little awkward because they’re so young but it’s not in a creepy way.  I wish I was as cool as these two when I was 13, but no one will ever be this cool. Also, two 13 year olds learning about how Paris needs to take better care their water systems and then advocating to politcal  figures about...we need more of that positive influence.

Legally Blonde (2001)

Dir. Robert Luketic

This is my all time favorite movie, whenever I’m feeling sad or insecure about myself I just watch this film and everything is good again. The idea of Elle Woods learning to better herself while not completly changing her personality in the process, is one that we need to normalize. Throughout the entire movie she maintains her strong will, kind personality, and amazing fashion sense but also gains some perspective
