Before Tour: Entry Way

ThatsQuirky: We've discovered some pretty cool historical tidbits about the entry way of our home.  I was checking out the light fixture and noted the inside had 'EAGLE PAT NO 73568' imprinted on the inside and a quick Google search later and I found the original patent paperwork.  I was surprised about the date - 1927, seven years after our house was built.

The other curious feature is a little wooden window next to the steps. It opens up into a coat closet behind it and looks like it originally had a front facing door as well.  The owner told us that in the 1960s it housed the family phone, but I wondered if that was the original intention or location. From the basement it looks as if there was bathroom plumbing that's since been capped off where the closet now sits.  Does your family home have a weird little window in the entryway? Or your grandparents? We'd love for you to ask 'em and share with us!

Before Tour: Dining Room

ThatsQuirky: When I set out to start the decorating process in our home, the dining room wasn't at the top of my list. That's quickly changed, mainly because I'm having so much fun with it! I hope to have an after shot ready for you in the next week or so - I've already done so much.  But before I get ahead of myself, here's a before look at the room.

The dining room is connected to the living room via a large arched opening. It also connects to the kitchen and has windows overlooking the side of the yard.  There was a bathroom added to the dining room with a pocket door in the past 15 years (one of the only changes to the 92 year old house). Even with the addition, the dining room fits our table nicely (see below). 

The lighting fixture is original to the house and last weekend my father in law helped me to rewire it and add a dimmer switch.  We have Edison bulbs on order and can't wait to screw them in!  

Now that we finally have space for it, we've purchased a new dining room table. I really like how the mission style lines compliment the age of the house.  I can't wait to show you how this room looks once it's finished!
