Why didn't my friends that play string instruments ever be so kind to warn me about the state my hands will be in?

My hands were as soft as a babies, now I got blisters and rough skin on my fingertips, and my fingertips hurt non stop.

God damn you, string instruments! You vengeful spirits of the arts! But also don't go, I like the sounds you devil's make.

hey so this is super random, but does anyone have any tips for picking up guitar? my brother has an old electric one thats hes never played and I want to learn. i managed to get it in tune, but have no idea where to go from there. if anyone could help that would be great!

Doing some guitar practice! The shapes I am trying to make for the chords are wider than my hand wants to be able to do. Do new/smaller-handed guitarists ever try to train their fingers to space out by putting toothpicks between them like people do to learn the LLAP 🖖 Vulcan salute? Are there exercises I can do to help build hand strength/flexibility more effectively than just trying the chord shapes over and over until I need to rest my hand?
