Most everything outside of the recent Saturday Night Live hosting footage seen in Netflix's biographical documentary feels rather cookie-cutter. However, the groundbreaking African-American comedian and entertainer Eddie Murphy led such a remarkable life that leaving half of it out still made for a fairly engaging film. So much is left out, barely explored, or not discussed at all.

Currently watching the Eddie Murphy documentary on Netflix and man his house is insane!! It's also so very pretty.

✨ Being Eddie — A Documentary That Actually Celebrates Eddie Murphy ✨

Just finished watching Being Eddie and honestly? It was such a refreshing documentary.

Instead of tearing someone down (like so many celeb docs love to do), this one actually celebrates Eddie Murphy—his talent, his impact, and the absolute joy he had in making people laugh. You really get to see where he came from, how he grew into this powerhouse young comic, and what it was like for him to handle fame so early.

The doc dives into both his comedy and acting careers, but what hit me most was how much he loved entertaining people. That energy practically jumps off the screen.

And for longtime fans: yes, it finally gets into why he stayed away from SNL for years, right up until his big 2019 return.

If you want something uplifting, funny, and full of heart, Being Eddie is such a good watch. It made me smile the whole time and reminded me why Eddie Murphy became a legend in the first place.

Being Eddie was a good doc, too long, and selective. He takes a victory lap and skips the scandals.

Legend status is real tho. This cut sells the brand more than the truth.
