I ponder the dynamic between parent and child quite often. This generation I live in has the knowledge, outlets and mediums to be so in touch with our own feelings, thoughts and perception of living, in contrast to our older generation. Not to say that each forthcoming generation of our pasts did not disagree with or carry a different mindset of living than their parents; but now this generation of technology and sharing of thoughts in mass openness has given us the confidence to question and explain our own feelings and thoughts to challenge our elders’ beliefs. I am sure this has happened increasingly more with each generation into the future, but I feel it has sped up rapidly in the past few decades.
Everyone has felt the pressure to become someone whom you’re parents have wanted you to be, as they raised you in such a way. On a vast scale, it seems obvious to me now, that human kind has been led in such a wrong, defeating direction due to obligation and obedience to previous generations. The reason our technology and knowledge is so important today, is that we now have our foot in the door to defy the past. It is important to use these tools and easy access of the internet to our futures’ advantage; not to be lazy and scroll through endless amounts of stupid, tabloid entertainment.
